New Info on Mazdaspeed P5

As most of you have heard, there are rumors flying around about a Mazdaspeed P5. I've been visiting a lot of Mazda dealers lately because my little brother wants to buy a 2003 P5 and a few of them are saying some things. There is no timeline exactly, but expect to see a Mazdaspeed P5 and Mazdaspeed 6 very soon. Mazda's big marketing campaign, as most of you know, has been "Zoom-Zoom." Therefore, Mazda wants to revitalize its name with performance versions of their cars. It's kinda like the M cars of BMW.

I, just like Sir Nuke once said, won't believe it until 1. It's on the Mazda USA website and 2. It's in the dealer show room.

So, to the soon to be owners of the P5, maybe you wanna wait?

Oh, I did get some Sure Info about the 2003.5 P5 though. You have the option of getting it with or without the roof rack. That is, if you order it instead of pick one out of the dealer lot. When you do order one without the roof rack, you won't get those annoying bumps on top. It's a smooth flush just like the Canadian Model. Mazda actually prefers you not wanting the rack cuz there is no price difference. I saw one at the dealer yesterday and it's clean. There are even little slots you can remove to install a roof rack later, which you have to buy "later." If you do want a roof rack, there's a new rubber piece with bumps like jagged teeth in the front crossbar to decrease wind noise.

Oh, and one thing, the sales people won't know what you're talking about if you say "2003.5 Protege5." You have to say "Mid-cycle refresh" for them to know what you're talking about. Hope this info helps anyone in the buying process.

Yep I had a option to order one without it when I picked up my 03, but I really needed a car.

And after watching my current blue one roll off the truck I feel in love.

I was its first driver.... *sniff, sniff*

Cant wait to see what they plan for the P5 in the future. Hopefully it will be nice considering hot fast they are selling. mazda must know they have a winner with the public right now.

I'm glad you got yours bud. It was like that for me too.

They are selling well too. Matter of fact, they sold more than 80,000 P5's last year. They're expecting more again this year so let's hope Mazda will continue moving in the right direction. Considering the new Protege is expected for the 2005 model, we should see the Mazdaspeed version before that. Perhaps we will see it for the 2004 model.

Sweet.
Course if I had known the Mazda6 was coming, I would have just waited.

But still happy, love keeping up with my dads Miata which he bought the week before. I actually only went to the dealer to pick up his wheel locks that they forgot to put on, saw a red demo model and was going to get that. But when I went to test drive that Red P5, the truck was offloading new shipments complete with the blue one.

So I got the blue, and another member here got the red.

All ended well
:D :D :D :D

Be nice to get a wider variety of Mazda backed performance add ons. The "import" companies ability to incorprate aftermarket from factory is one reason the imports have taken off lately.
Course now more and more domestic makers are starting to see this trend and finally catch on.

(wiggle) That "other member" REMillers is referring to would be me. Funny how easy it is to fall in love with the P5, ain't it? They are great little cars, and boy do I hope they create more MazdaSpeed parts for our cars in the future...it's kinda hard to stop tuning these cars! Well I got the "Sport Exhaust" as soon as I could, and though it's overpriced, it's an outstanding product.

Sweet, now I know someone who I can go to to see just how th exhaust sounds.

Was going to get it installed tommorrow when it goes in for service, but going to hold off for a bit longer

*bites nails*

Oh its hard to wait.

:D

Wait!
Don't get it professionally installed!

If you just got the axle-back portion of the exhaust, it is very easy to put on yourself, and not to mention it's much more gratifying! It does NOT void the warrenty to put it on yourself, and it only takes about 25 minutes with the right sized socket wrench, some WD-40, and some standing car jacks. It's important to find a garage if you expect to do it this time of year!

I'm not sure about the full exhaust system, but I'm pretty sure the whole thing is bolt-on, and I'm positive the muffler is. As a matter of fact, if you can find some free time, I will gladly help you install it, should you want or need the assistance. Just drop me a note at my email(if you still have it). If I recall correctly, the charge for the installation is rather expensive for the amount of work involved(somewhere in the range of 60-90 dollars), and the whole thing is actually kinda fun.

Best of luck with your exhaust and keep me updated!

I do not want to start rumors but what I have heard from Mazda was the MP5 mazda speed version will be powered either by the 170 horsepower sports 20 engine or the new 2.3liter turbo motor. Thats the two answers I received about the mazdaspeed protege 5.

WHOA!!!!!!

and here i am with my 03 130hp protege. =(

2004=mazda3, replacement for the protege, Is the p5 gonna be around? From what i am hearing: would not bet on it if I were you. Zoom-Zoom-Zoom

Ahh I dont think they would get rid of the P5, or atleast the concept. A newer version "may" replace it under a new badge name. However the sport hatchback is a diffuclt concept to sell in the US market, something the P5 is doing extremely well in. Its making up a LARGE portion of their total sales so far.

I most likey wont get it installed as I've done many exhaust installs before on DSMs and Hondas. Even full exhaust are not hard to do.

Only hard install I've done piping wise was a Front Mount Intercooler from a Starion to a DSM. Wasnt bad expect doing all the custom piping in the cold at dark. But it worked :D

They are going to release the mazda 3 end of 2004. The sedan will become the 3 sedan. The Protege5 will become the p5. The sedan will get the face lift as well as the P5 which consist of projected style lights like the mazda 6. The mazsa 3 3 door will have the 2.3L motor. The sedan will have either 2.0 or 2.3 and the P5 will have 2.3l only. Mazdaspeed mazda 3 will be turbo charged as well as the p5 speed.

If the protege 5 speed version comes out soon meaning this year or early next year it will have the 170 hp j motor. MAYBE........

cdglowp5,

Were did you hear all this? Got a place you can share with the rest of us? Or are we just hearing rumors?

If they're releasing the next generationg model at the end of next year, it'll be the 2005 model. Which means there will be one more year of the current P5.

M3 is the replacement for the protege, will be 04 model, DONE DEAL, p5? would have to make a phone call. as for mazda speed stuff, all suspension, brakes cross over to p5. no ifs ands or buts, If ya got the phat wallet go for it. ZOOM-ZOOM-ZOOM

Exhaust

Just put on a Thermal Cat back. Unless you live up north and don't own a garage, put it on yourself. It is an easy job. I got two ramps for the ass end. Backed it up, threw on the E brake. Got under there and unbolted the old system, which is 4 bolts! and pulled it out. A good idea is to spray some WD40 and wait 30 minutes. Getting the new one on is a little tough because of the weight of the system. But from there it's getting the gaskets on and bolting it on. Very easy and now you know what the bottom of your car looks like. I suggest the Thermal exhaust. It's a little pricey but worth it.

i also read, and i don't recall where...maybe "automobile" that the protege will become a US ford made car in 04??
