New Headunit with OEM Rear View Camera

I was thinking about swapping out the factory head unit in my CX-5 touring to the pioneer AppRadio2 as there is a app that will let me mirror my phone with complete touch screen controls to this headunit. However Crutchfield stated I may need to install an aftermarket rear view camera to replace the OEM as the OEM may not work with the new headunit. Does anyone know if it is possible to connect to OEM camera to an aftermarket headunit? This would be the headunit I was looking at,

And what about Tomtom app? I suppose that with Appradio you would look for another GPS app... Or there is one already in?

That looks really cool but I'm wondering about the fit. It's 7" display and I think the CX-5 is 5.8". Fill it fit in or are you going to have to do some "surgery?"

I think the rear view camera goes into the rear control unit which sends the signal forward on the 2 wire LAN on the car.
You might be able to pick up the signal at the rear control unit and cable it up to the new head unit...

A camera is a camera, will only have two signal wires (if it is analog that is) all you need to do is isolate the positive and negative signal wires. It should be a simple matter of taping into the feed. Of course the not-so simple part is finding the feed in the first place. It may be less aggravating to install a camera that is known to be compatible and running a new feed from there.

Yes it will work, Back up camera is a Auxiliary connector. Just unplug it and plug it into your new unit.

Can anyone else confirm this? According to Crutchfield, I lose the OEM back-up cam if I switch to a aftermarket HU.

It is not a normal red/white/yellow connector. I was halfway through installing a head unit from Crutchfield when I found out that the factory back up camera would not work with the new 'camera ready' unit, so I sent it back.

In order to get the OEM camera to work you would probably need to reverse the adapter used in this thread,

You would need to splice the wiring back at the rear of the car where it connects to the control unit.
