Just thought I'd pop in an introduce myself. I'll swing by here from time to time if I need to know something about my Protege.

I purchased it (an 02 Protege with the 2.0L and an Automatic) last December for $4800 as my beater. Honestly I'm happy with having a car that can zip around all day long and doesn't consume much gas. It has many annoying traits (but hell, i think it gives it character :D ).

I just purchased some Tokico HP struts and Tokico lowering springs, so hopefully that will settle the obnoxious noises this thing makes when going over some bumps.

My other vehicle is a mustang. It can be seen here : My Cardomain

Oh yeah, I live near Nashville, TN and I am a mechanic in the US Army.

welcome - i think you'll find it a fun car.

the noises going over bumps might be the sway-bar end links. they have a tendancy to get loose and clunk like dunk-a-dunk. you might want to order some up to have on hand when you put the struts and springs in. thats the kit i have, and i love 'em.

thumping/grating noise coming from the rear. does sound like an end link problem. i'll see if i can't find a cheap set for me to throw on while i do the springs and shocks.

The Novi is a very large blower. I had to do quite a bit of trimming to get it to fit. it's so funny to see my car next to a buddy's car with a vortec. that vortec looks like an alternator its so tiny. :) I can't wait for my tranny to get back so i can drive it again! I miss being able to press the gas pedal and GO.
