New England Auto Show in Boston

The 135i is a nice ride, but somehow, the proportions don't sit right with me. I'd much rather have a nice '72 2002tii and have $15,000 to spare as a downpayment towards a Speed3...

Highlights for me:

Scion xB. The new model is bigger and I swear all the space is in the back seat. I have tons of knee room even with the front seat in the rear most position. Its a cute little car and I'd definitely consider it if we were in the market for another wagon/hatch.

VW GTI. Coming in at a similar price point as the MS3 this car impressed me. The shifter was very smooth (as all VWs and Audis are) and the clutch was effortless. I liked the seat height but Amanda did not. If the car were as reliable as a Mazda I'd consider one.

Audi A3. Amanda and I both liked this more than the other cars in the hatch/wagon market but the dash seemed a little busy to me.

You did not park in the South Lot and take the shuttle? I totally agree on your reviews. If you have not had a chance, take the A3 and the GTI for a test drive. I drove them with the manual and DSG. Alas the price was a bit steep for me at the time.

wow, i heard of the possibility but didn't think of anything going into production. seems like alot of features to be priced low to th elikes of an ms3 and such...the pontiac g5 was still n/a though at the show.

The G5 is staying the way it is. Pontiac never had a supercharged G5 unfortunately.

The $15,000 will be the bill for a restoration for a 02tii.

We took the kiddos and had a good time.
Like the new venue.
It was pretty nice overall.
We had a few disappointments, the kids section was supposed to have a huge CARS themed slide and moon bounce-thingy. I found out that the State showed up on Wed and closed it down. They only had 2 of the 3 required permits.
Thanks Mass, I suppose I should be grateful. But the kids were bummed out.
There was only one Nissan Murano and they would not unlock it for us to sit in :( Apparently it was a pre-production '08 model W/E.
Cindy found she prefers the Ford Edge to some of the other similar SUVs we explored.
We checked the Tribeca, the Lincoln version of the Edge, and a few others.
I loved the "Stormy Blue" RX-8 color at the Mazda section.
We stayed for the stunt bike demo and the kids liked that.

I used the directions from the convention center website and we got there fine. I followed the signs to park and we crawled under and all around the whole center until they detoured us out the other side to the NE parking section. Ridiculous! We took the shuttle (aka Bus) over from the lot cuz it was Freezin out!

Oh yea, I can't believe Toyota had the new Matrix and Corolla roped off. Hahahaha!

Boy was that a brisk walk from that lot.

I took the T in from Providence and had to walk to the Expo Center from downtown. Now that was cold! lol

After my friend and I took a cab to Faneuil Hall because it was too cold. We didn't know how to get back so a lady working at the subway entrance let us in for free and told us how to get back to South Station. I've never been on a subway before and it was pretty fun! :)

All in all I had a good time. I will try to get all of my pics up later!

hahaha I didn't see that. lol I found the interior of the one Audi I sat in the be really nice. I don't remember what model it was though. :/

P.S. - I also found Alex Roy to be pretty cool and didn't know he was even going to be there. Talked with him for about 15 - 20 minutes.

More pics here for those interested. Some pics are blurry 'cause the flash made some too dark, and without the flash the exposure time was longer and my shaky hands couldn't hold the camera still enough. Oh well, here's what I got. A few thoughts:

-The GT-R is as ugly in person as it is in pictures.
-The STI looks like a Kia to me, except for the bronze wheels.
-The BMW 1-series coupe's back end looks cheap (like a Kia) to me.
-The Audi R8 is simply awesome looking. It'll never be mistaken for any other car (unless another mfgr copies it).
-Audi's RS4 shifter felt like it should be in a $25k car, not an $85k car.
-Kia had the hottest model at the show.
-The Dodge Challenger is even more stunning in person than it is in pictures. I can't wait to see one at a dealer/be able to drive/buy one.
-Maserati actually let people sit in their $117k coupe and $134k sedan. Sweet.

Overall the show was much better than the Expo Center shows. I spent 4.5 hours there and could have easily spent more time at it. Catch it next year if you happened to miss this one. It's easily worth the time.

Canecreekfreak, I agree with you on the RS4, I've actually been lucky enough to drive one and really disliked the transmission in general. I was always unsure if I had fully engaged a gear. The clutch also has a very strange way of gripping...it feels like it is 100% connected/gripped when there is a lot of pedal movement left.
I thought the new STi was gross looking as well, but believe the rear end lights on the challenger could use a re-make.
All in all a good show, too bad I only had 90 minutes to check it all out.

Why not post these in the Auto news forum as the New England Auto Show?
