It is if you are listening to a song you really like or a news story for example and want to finish it without wasting gas by idling before you leave the car.
Strange. My 2014 changes from orange (on) to green (engaged), which is a very obvious change. Maybe there are differences between models/years.
You can do this by not putting the car in park before you shut the engine. The radio and accesories will stay on. You can then put the car in park. To shut all off before leaving the car, just press the start button to cycle to off (whithout pressing the brake, because this will cause the car to start again).

Good to know. I was under the impression that the car had to be in park to shut the engine off.
My issues:
* Hood and mirror vibration and how come this was not fixed before production?
Minor issues:
* Sometimes, AT insists on too low RPM (below 1500) for the accelerator position making the engine protest in loudish noise. Remedy is to press the accelerator even more to force it to shift. If this needs to repeat every some seconds, it becomes annoying (no paddle shifters).
* USB play does not resume.
* USB play shuffle is not sufficiently random (PRNG is seriously flawed), essentially playing same songs over and over.
* Too dark interior - should have been gray, not black. In the parking garage, I can't see what's in the cargo area
* If I auto-close the driver's side window, then turn off the engine, the window will stop! (WTF?) I will then have to hold the up button to let it go up all the way. Also, I can't open a window after the engine is off (like in my locked garage at home).
* When folding the back seat, headrest might catch the seat pouch and tear it. Also, combining front passenger seat folding with the backseat (to get long cargo in) is not ideal.
Likes:
* 2.5L engine is great. Still avoiding high RPM for a little while longer.
* Ride quality.
* Looks.
* Voice command works better than I expected.
* Rear view camera is awesome

My dislikes
- Good usable power for a 2.0 liter engine, good usable low end torque compared to other 4 cylinders.
- Awesome gas mileage, just got 36 the other say and averaging 33-34 on most others.
- Light on its feet handling feel makes it fun to drive. high corning limits for an SUV.
- Fantastic brakes that are easy to modulate
- Steering is the best electric setup I have ever had for feel, just good steering feel.
- Materials inside feel above average for the class.
- Best automatic transmission I have ever had by far. The small torque converter with 85-90% lockup is brilliant.
- good interior space and storage, just right.
- Like that the CX5 is rare and there isn't 1 for every 5 vehicles that go by like I see every day with competitors.
My dislikes
- Noisy inside, its loud inside this car on long trips, I get 75-80 db recorded on my sound meter app on my phone. My wifes Mazda 5 which is also known for being somewhat loud only records 60-65 with the same app.
- Black materials inside show every spec dirt.
- High sill makes access a little tough for someone with large feet.
- First year rattles and squeaks (did expect it going in) are a necessary evil of buying a first model year.
- The radio and speakers kind of suck but mostly the speakers. Sound from them is terrible (sport model).
You're correct--it does go from orange to a kind of yellowy-green. The icon is so small the change is almost imperceptible. But since I have the tech pkg, I should have the interactive features discussed above, which should take care of this complaint. I forgot to mention another dislike--the blue "engine cold" dummy light. I almost took the car back to the dealer b/c the temp light was on, before I figured out what it was.

Not always, Bladecutter--the manual is sometimes poorly written and hard to understand, and I would consider this blue temp light to be a flawed, counter-intuitive design. It looks an awful lot like a problem with the temperature of the engine, and altho the OM] says it tells you when the engine has warmed enough for the cabin heater to function, the alternative is to just wait 2-3 mins before you turn on the heat, which I can do without a confusing dummy light.
Another example where the manual doesn't help is with the accelerator pedal kick down switch. It is described in the attached file copied from the "Smart Start Guide." The explanation in the SSG is nearly incomprehensible, and I have yet to locate an explanation of this kick down switch in the full manual. I also learned a ton of tricks and features on my last car that were not in the OM by reading boards like these. Cheers!

This. Simply mind blown at the amount of threads that surface everyday on this forum which could be answered by thinking twice, spending two minutes reading the manual, or using common sense. I know the general consumer for run of the mill vehicles like the CX-5 are not known for being tech savvy or mechanically inclined, but the amount of ignorance that appear is simply mind blowing.
Would appreciate if you would be more tolerant of lesser minds like mine.
1) I did not say, as misstated above by the prior post to which you responded, that I thought the entire OM was poorly written and difficult to understand. I said parts of it are, and I stand by that characterization. It is a common flaw in technical writing. Sometimes this may be the result of the translation from a different language. That said, the OM is clearly full of very good, useful info.
2) I think this whole idea of responding to posts by saying, "read the manual!, or, "if you just read the manual, you would know [how stupid your question is], is unwelcoming and not useful on this board. I have participated since '05 on a Acura forum like this. Folks on that forum are far more welcoming, seem to like helping others, even if the question the person asked was answered on page 1 of the OM. If you think a forum or post is redundant or stupid, ignore it or skip it.
3) I gave, and attached, an example of what I was talking about with the kick down switch. Not a mention of it anywhere in the OM itself.
4) IMHO, a hallmark of good design for a dashboard warning light is that it can be intuitively understood. In my opinion, an old-fashioned temp guage would be far better than a dummy warning light (the blue temp low light) that really isn't a warning light and serves little useful purpose. But that's just my opinion. Doesn't mean it's a bad car. Doesn't mean I didn't read the OM. Just an opinion about one feature of the car that I don't like in response to a thread called "likes/dislikes."

IMHO the blue light for cold engine works well and is plenty intuitive. The blue light does serve a purpose (please see below):
I have another direct-injected car with a standard temp gauge and it's more bother to read the gauge (rather than waiting for blue light to go out) and determine if it's okay to drive it hard. Because of the cooling effect of DI, these engines tend to be slower to warm up than PI engines.

I agree 100% with the other poster that mentioned no additional storage compartments for things like change. I'm coming from a CR-V...I had a "cubby hole", a hidden pop down thing that my GPS fit into, and the right side of the dash had a cut out for smaller type things. And there was a deep, pop out type drawer in the center bottom....and a drawer under the passenger seat. So I'm missing those things a LOT. A WHOLE lot.
I feel the center console is too far back. Trying to get something out of it is very awkward. I don't have my seat up close to the steering wheel, either.
It's probably unfair to call this a dislike, but the computer calculations have made me obsessive. I'm constantly checking my mileage now. I hope I'll outgrow that one.
I drove a CR-V which didn't have the center console but rather a "tray table" you could keep up or down. Keeping it down gave me THE perfect place to store my purse and even stopping short it wouldn't do anything more than slide forward on the floor. Now I'm putting it on the front passenger seat so I know a quick stop is going to send it flying. The other nice thing about no center console is I could keep the folding windshield heat deflector under the passenger seat and reach it easily. I can just barely reach it in the Mazda.

It's a very nice looking vehicle...though coming from the CR-V it feels more like a mid-sized SUV to me than a compact. The RAV 4 also felt smaller when I test drove it.
I like how the spare tire access is so easy. In the CR-V the "lid" was a freaking table...so with a cargo tray in there, trying to lift up the cargo tray and get to the lever to lift the table was not the easiest thing to do. Which was a shame because that was all storage space under there...you just never found yourself wanting to use it. The way the Mazda is designed I don't have to lift the entire back of the car to get to the tire area.
I appreciate having a back door that swings UP after 9 years with a side swinging door. The side swinging didn't bother me most of the time but boy did I wish it was a back hatch door when trying to load groceries in the rain.
The mazda rides nice...CR-V was a bit more "rough around the edges".
That's all I got for now...we are still learning each other and admittedly I'm feeling some sense of loss of my CR-V. Nine years with the same car does tend to make it feel like an extension of yourself. Lots of memories there. I'm looking forward to creating new ones, but I'm still in that stupid phase of "But my CR-V could do that/had that". I know I'll move over to the "WOW...the CR-V could NEVER do/have that". It's just taking a little time right now.
