New Car

Got a 2003.5 pr5 today, silver. My primary question - I declined to pay $800 for the special paint finish and the undercarriage cover because I figured that I could get this stuff for cheaper from someone other than the dealer. I thought I'd consult a few people and then decide what to do - the dealer said I could come back and get them in the next week. So, should I?

Thanks (wiggle)

I say you don't need it. Dealer add ons are strictly for them to make more profit. See the thread "Dealer BS" in this forum... it's about similar dealer add ons.

Good, get it from Brown's in Fairfax? I saw them cleaning a new silver p5 last night and perhaps that was your's.

Great decision and best of luck to you on it.

Welcome.. :)
hopefully I will see you around town because we live in the same area..

Anyone know of somewhere else that could offer me this service for a more reasonable price? I had the distinct feeling at the dealership that they were trying to pull one over on me by convincing me that I should spring for additional features.

I got it from the dealership in Arlington at the intersection of Glebe and Wilson Blvd. :p

I just picked up a 6s from browns fairfax and got the service for 300... I'd say they're asking a *bit* much.

Was this just for the undercarriage service? They offered that for $350 alone, $400 for the paint cover, and $400 for the interior cloth protectant. $750 for all three.

Was for paint and interior cloth - Didn't even get offered the "undercarriage" bit. Sorry if I misread.

The undercarriage bit was a plastic cover that prevents against rust. I got into a bit of a scuffle over this. They said it was covered under warranty. So I asked, what specifically is under warranty? They said the cover, but when I asked if they would be responsible for repairs if rust should occur, they said no. Seemed fishy to me so I passed.

Honestly, I wouldn't pay for any of the three. I bought my Mazda at another dealership and didn't pay for any of these extras and the car looked waxed, washed, and sparkling. Not to mention if you're concerned about the looks it'll be much cheaper for you to wash, polish and wax the car.

You guys are WAY to biased against mazda........jeeeesh..

Go to Mazda....they do a good job with it trust me.
I got it done and it is well worth it.
I did it on my 1994 Mazda MX3 and it has 210000km's and NO RUST.....
hope this helps.

P.S Just get the Rust ander undercarriage protection.

I wouldn't do it. Look at it this way, it's all profit for them. You can probably get it taken care of cheaper. 800$ is roughly 15$/month for 60 months of a 5 year loan.

word. can any other place offer to install this plastic undercarriage cover, if it's even necessary? $350 seems steep for a piece of plastic that protects from road salt.

HI CHARLIE.

<--- Charlie :)

I paid $695 Canadian for undercarriage, rust, paint, and cloth. I knew that when I was doing it the dealer was making a load but still had to treat my new car with the utmost respect ;)
