New Bose Stereo Problems

I full heartedly disagree there. If that were the case then why when the bass drops out, you can actually lower the volume a notch and the bass comes back for a bit?

Sorry, let me clarify. I said that in regards to bass seeming quieter or louder when the car's moving or not. I wasn't referring to the bass cutout problem above certain volume settings on the 08.5 ms3. I have an 07 so I don't have any experience with that.

Ah, gotchya. I've noticed on the 08.5 the bass dropout not being as bad when the car isnt moving for some strange reason. Thought thats what was being referred to.

Count one more 08.5 with the 34 to 35 problem. I have owned the car for a week and it already has problems. People used to rag on my Dodge's but they never had a single problem. I'll be visiting the dealer tomorrow.

Anyone know the number to call Mazda at ?

The 1-888-222-5500 posted earlier is out of service.

I called mazda and could not get through to them, so I emailed:

Dear Alan,

Thanks again for contacting Mazda.

We are unaware of any known issues with the Bose system. Your local dealer may be able to assist you.
Again, thank you for contacting Mazda.

Looks like mazda corporate is definetely not officially on their toes about the issue yet, so how can they be sending out TSB, recalls, etc if they don't even know yet?

Confirmed by Mazda

My dealer is Classic Mazda in Denton Texas. After 3 weeks of going back and forth and having the radio replaced, they finally were able to get Mazda to confirm the issue and actually use the word "recall". Mazda told the repair manager that the solution will be a software update that should be dealer installable in the next 30 days or so. Hope this helps.

Whelp, got a call directly from Mazda (I reported the issue about a month ago, or whenever I posted last in this thread..) and the guy I spoke to said that Mazda is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. He had told me that even some of the folks at where he worked were having the same issue and that it wasn't a matter of if it will be fixed, but when. He also offered to send me some Mazda gift certificates ($100 worth) for my time/trouble. All in all, I'm glad to hear its being addressed..I just hope its taken care of quickly.

My Dealer has a FIX for the volume/EQ 34-35 issue!
I met with my dealer's Mazda rep today.
I was told that it is indeed a software issue in the radio itself and Mazda has a fix for this via a software update. The catch is that they will need to remove my HU and send it off to NY they said where it can be "re-flashed".

They are removing the radio on Monday and shipping it out.
They're giving me a car to drive while it's without a radio too!

I was not given any fix bulletin notice or anything like that. But it was clear that beyond the front lines of Mazda Customer Support, they know about this and I've been told the fix is available now.

They were going to give me a new HU with the fix but they are backordered currently and I didn't want to wait.

FYI, my car is the Mazda 3 5 Door Sport with the Single CD player that can play mp3's.

I'll give an update when I get the radio back.

I'm wondering if my dealer would just be able to order a new radio and exchange mine once it came in. I'm not interested in having my car sit without a radio while I drive a loaner.

Can you post any information regarding a TSB or bulletin number?

i just don't understand why anyone has the volume up to 34 and 35... i'm never even in the thirties and it's plenty loud for me... and i used to have a 2 12W3 setup in my protege.... weird i guess...

O.K, I just got a call back from Patty at Bose Systems. Patty say's that Bose is aware of the problem with the Mazda 3 Bose stereo. The problem is with the head unit supplied by Sanyo Corporation. Patty said your local dealers should have details on how to fix this issue within the next week to 10 days.

I'm the opposite. I hear the bass cut out even worse standing still than when the car is moving. The reason why is because the car is absolutely quite when the car is standing still, so I notice the stereo more.

When moving, it's not quite as annoying, but it's still there - just masked by road noise. This is the only car I owned where I hear every pebble hit and rain drop.

BTW, are the people at Mazda ignoring the problems on the non-Bose systems? I was hoping those who are making noise to Mazda Corporate also mentions the non-Bose or they would totally forget about us non-Bose owners.

When the fix comes, I don't want to go to my dealer and have them say "oh, it only applies to the Bose unit".

Yea, I've got the non-Bose as well, but from what Talisman said they're aware that its a Sanyo issue, also udder said he sent his off and it looks like he has the non-bose as well. So I think we should be golden. :)

OK PPL, Mine is FIXED. I recieved a call from the Parts Department that my radio was in. Alright this is what they did for me. They ordered a brand new BOSE deck and it fixed the problem. The radio doesnt do the volume/quality jump at 34 to 35. Also I am pretty sure that the flash they send off will probably fix the problem but it is fixed for me. :) If they decide to order one make sure they request for the new ones cause the Refurbs dont have the fix in them yet unless they tell you specifically that it has been reflashed. GL ppl I hope this helps.

Sweet! thanks for the update baluuMS3. Does it sound noticeably better, too? I know we can't win it all... lol.

I called the 800 number, and the guy there says they are aware of the problem, but don't know when a fix is ready or how they will notify owners (probably through a TSB.

He said it was a Panasonic HU though? And the only difference between the Bose and the non-Bose is the speakers. The HU is basically the same. The Bose also gets the 6-disc changer, while non-Bose is single. But that's it. Same pre-amp, same audio circuitry.

The sound quality is better I feel but it deosnt seem to be as loud. But After this long battle they finally got it fixed and I am happy. Like I said, they ordered a brand new unit for me and not a unit from the normal place they would get it from. My service department my car goes to is Mazda South of Austin TX. Hope this helps if you have more question please feel free to PM me.

Say I were to get this taken care of, how can I verify that they're replacing the radio with a brand new one and not a refurbished unit?

Also, does the entire unit get replaced (meaning, the entire piece from the dash? Or is it just the brain behind the control panel that gets replaced?)

Bass cut in/out

8.5 CWP MS3 in PHX, AZ having same issues. With BASS at -6 and ALC off, BASS cuts in HEAVY,,,,,randomly, but generally when driving. Dealer already replaced radio and it still does it so I have another diag. visit with the dealer soon. When the BASS cuts in and I change the volume at either location it drops back out. This occurs on my non Bose single CD radio, on radio or MP3 input. It sounds like a ground issue or crossed signal in a wire bundle. Hopefully it will be resolved. Thanks for your blogs.
