New 2011 Owner - RX8 to Speed3

Definitely rotary. Although I would be hard pressed to tell you which aircraft they go into.

Looked it up last night, they usd it in experimental aircraft, and a prototype flying car. But there are rotary and radial engines that use pistons like regular car engines, like on the prop planes. The difference between rotory and radial is one has the crank stationary while the block rotates, and vise versa for the other. Howstuffworks ftw

What aboout remote control flying devices? They probably have the wankel/renesis type rotary

Wow, didn't have the 8 for very long.

Friend of mine is into FDs and got an rx8 trying to stay with rotory everything, always told me he hated it. Mainly because he kind of expected a little better gas mileage from a newer vehicle

I'm really surprised that the rx8 is still selling. The following must be wayyyyy to big for mazda to give up. But when you compare it to other sports cars there's almost no comparison

thats probably why after 2011 the rx8 will be no more. no following anymore. nobody buys them. i've always been on the line when it came to the rx8. a turboed one would be fun.

Are they gonna replace it with anything else? I heard a rumor about a rotary 3.

For the past 2 years or so there was a "16x" rotary in development, but they couldn't get the power and fuel economy they wanted out of it. It would probably not be very competitive in 2010, much less 3 years down the road.

There will be a new rotary, using the "sky" technology Mazda is about to unleash upon the world. That should make it competitive with all these high-powered V6 engines we're seeing, and not be such a damn gas guzzler. Personally, I'm more pumped about the new diesels Mazda has coming, but I'm a diesel fanboy anyway. There will be a new RX, but probably not till 2013.

I have a 2010 so I am not hating but the 2011 head lights look a bit odd... whats up with the sparkly crap in the front of them?

oaklandopen already stated it, there is no rotary engine airplane like you all are thinking. The misconseption is due to them calling it a rotary engine because its a type of piston engine with a rotating cylinder block.

Google is your friend. The Wankel Rotary has not died because there are several people out there that still believe in it. I am just waiting for the newer engine to come out as it shows promise. Yes the first years of the RX8 are prone to engine failure and that is Mazda's fault in design as to why they offer a 100K warranty on it. The newer 2009 and up are showing better results though. I am still wanting to get an RX8 though.
