NEMOC Random BS Thread

The weather decided to make Mahk and I its b****. My car hasn't fully dried out yet!

We got home around 10:30.......great time with our NEMOC Family! Lauri helped to SpeedSource to the 3rd straight win when she crews for SpeedSource!

Thursday night I'm planning to take the truck over to Patriot Place in Foxboro for the bi-weekly cruise night. I've heard it's one of the biggest cruise nights in New England. If anyone wants to meet me for dinner or something let me know.

I should hit up one of those before summer is out. I work about 20 mins from Foxboro

Made it home from the Glen about 9pm last night. Great weekend as always Marlon. Lauri, Phen and Tom. Mark and Phen, that was a parade lap to remember.

I saw a lot of this guy in many many pics from "The Glen"

You seemed to be everywhere all at once Bruce!

whats everyone got here for insurance? i added the mx5 to mine, making it the DD and now a 3 mile commute to work, and the rate went so far up. my coworker does have a lesser liability but he has an rsx-s and s60r and he pays 150-200 less per 6 months than i would with all state. think i need to switch to geico, $404 for 6 months for both cars, comp on both and collision on the p5

Morning all!

Hope the car is drying out for ya Phen.

Marlon...better have Speedsource put Lauri on the payroll. lol Congrats though....she's a good luck charm.

Kyle, when I called my State Farm agent about adding a 96M to my stable, my monthly premium would have gone up $45. Right now I'm paying $130 month for both with full tort, stacked coverages, comp and collision on both the P5 and 3. Be careful with Geico....switched to them back in the 90's and saved about $500 a year but every 6mos my premium would inch up a just a bit and I switched to State Farm 5yrs later. What would your premiums be with the Miata as a secondary and would there be any limitations?

im looking more into geico and some pople have said there rates would just increase at random times. of course im paying for mine up front so it would only raise at the 6 month mark, at which point i can leave. but $700 with all state to $404 with geico is a big deal. but those other companies are definitely better for customer service. just not sure what to do. i was planning to register the miata tomorrow, but need proof of insurance to do so

Last week was a bust. About 20-30 cars showed up. Not much to look at. I chatted with a few people including one guy who used to repair Mazdas in the 70's. He loved the OEM carb and said not to touch it. I'll go back again this summer. I'll let you know ahead of time.

Never stay with an insurance company too long. They will just keep increasing your rates. At least once per year you should shop around, or have an agent that does it for you. Company's views of the risk you represent can change monthly and your rates are adjusted accordingly. Plus many companies offer a "new customer" discount that phases itself out over time. If you're always a new customer somewhere you're always getting the discount.

Your policy period is 6 months whether you pay up front or throughout the period. Your rates can't adjust during the policy period unless you call to make a change (add vehicle, adjust premium, etc...). The "random time" people likely weren't paying attention to their policy term. Also FYI you can always leave your insurance company at any point during the term regardless of whether you pay up front or not. They will just prorate your policy and write you a check for the difference.

I have GEICO for auto and motorcycle because after shopping a few places it was the cheapest. Spend an hour or so doing a few online quotes, or find a good agent that will take care of shopping your policy around for you. You can try insurance.com as they are a comparative rater and can get you quotes from a few different companies. I haven't used them but seems pretty straightforward.

In conclusion, never feel bad for your insurance company.

I have Nationwide, but I have extremely low deductibles and high coverage, so my rates are higher than most people's just because of that. I'm paying $90 a month for full coverage on the MSM.

well ive only had allstate now for 6 months. and my policy is ending so its the perfect time to add another car or sign up for somethind entirely new. esurance (backed by allstate), puts my rate at the same price as geico of around 400 for 6 months. i think ill have to call allstate again and see what is what. i just didnt know if there was some kind of reward with staying with one company for a longer amount of time

No. It's more the opposite.

Also I haven't looked in detail into it yet but "backed by Allstate" could just mean it's Allstate's money behind the scenes. The processes, procedures, service, and (most importantly) rating engine could all still be entirely eSurance. I wouldn't necessarily expect Allstate to match eSurance's price. I'd guess over time that eSurance and Allstate become more closely aligned but as of now since the acquisition is relatively new it wouldn't surprise me to see them acting as totally different companies and just using Allstate's name for marketing.

????? I haven't shopped around in quite some time but we have both homeowners and auto through State Farm as well as safe driving discounts, etc. And it may not be much but my monthly premium has actually gone down about $10 over the last two years. Couple that with the Customer Service I got from my local agent when I was hit and run by a tractor trailer two years ago along with the recent mess with an out-of-state tow and I'm ok with paying a little more.

Customer service is something that people value differently. If you're happy where you are then by all means stick around.

From a pure price perspective it is good to shop around as company's views of the risk you represent is constantly changing. Just because State Farm has gone $10 over the last two years doesn't mean another company hasn't gone down $100.

I can give you the number of my agent. She's in West Hartford.. She can send the quote out to about 15 companies at once.
