Hello, I`m new to the forums and I`m looking into buying a Mazda MP3 in the upcoming days. I spotted one that`s well into my budget, it`s a 2001, but the only problem is that it has 135,000 miles on it. Now i talked to the guy and hese asking 2,800 $ for it. The MP3 is stock and he told me it has a bit of rust near the doors (easily fixable).

My question would be weather or not its a safe and smart buy, or, i should look into the other 6,000k ones I found for the same year. Also, how much it would cost me to throw in a decent turbo in it.

Thanks!

For 6k you can get a 2003 or 2003.5 mazdaspeed protege... I would go with the mazdaspeed, but dont get one with alot of mods or high mileage... Good luck... The turbos are small the lsds break and the stock tune is weak, but they have alot more potentail than the mp3... Turbo is soooooo much more fun...

MSPs are really not much different than a MP3. So if you want a MSP, buy the MP3 for cheap and through MSP parts on it to make it turbo. The engines are identical. Tuning is different due to the ecu for turbo vs non turbo. I have 165xxx on my stock MSP and i love it and everything is in good shap. But if I was in your situation I would buy the MP3

I would get the MP3 as well. Make sure to check compression and have the motor looked at if possible.

$2,800 for a mp3, I would be skeptical. I sold my 99 trans am for $2,800 but the body was trashed the interior was bad and the cradle had a huge peice missing. Usually you get what you pay for. This might be a good deal, but get it checked by a mechanic before you fork over the cash... Just my 2 cents as a mechanic.
