Need something to 'Grin' about? (like us MSP owners need another reason to Grin!)

No, there are different settings with the unit OFF to select the size/type of speakers/woofers. These can only be gotten to with the unit OFF!

Indeed; that is correct. However; to change your frequency settings, you will want to be listening to music.

Hey! It's about that time!!!

Cheers!!

I know, I know, all music and tastes are different for frequencies etc. but the speaker size and type must be standard for us all. Mine was set up with the woofer as 12" Type A, surely this should have been se to 8". The one that confuses me is the "speaker setting" was set to OFF (and clearly they were on) but I think this is some slight tuning of the Q settings. 4"/5", 6"/6"x9" or OEM. I guess I should ask in the Audio forum.

Yes, the sub is a single 8".

One persons settings may not be ideal for another person. Different musical styles call for different EQ settings.

Grimace: How are you? I'm so glad tomorrow's Friday!! And; it looks like we might have a weekend in the high 50s. In that case the Mazdas will get washed! :D

You are absolutely correct! Everyone has different tastes, and enjoy different treble settings, bass settings, etc...

So; which MSP are you getting?

Cheers!

Andrew: Just 'reset' on the front of the unit. Your Sub will default correctly, etc... Then; all you will need to do is adjust your frequencies. Works Great!!

I am waiting to see some pictures of the 2003.5 titanium cars in natural light before I make my final decision. I think Newf is in the same boat. Still can't make up my mind.
But I think if the dealer (Avante) called me tomorrow and said the orange's were in, I probably couldn't resist going down that minute and picking it up on the spot. :)

the thing that was kind of wierd about the radio for me, was that the button colors were set to delfault on green. I would have thought that because the interior lights on the MSP are red and blue, so that would have made more sence to me. But once i figured out how to change the colors on the buttons, it looks much better.

yeah I got bumping in my car with my two 10" subs and I didn't think my coke can in teh cup holder was moving as much as it normally should, so I checked my speakers and the little black plastic plug on the box where the wires connect to the sealed box had been popped out, the subs pushed it off. So I plugged the little plastic back in and added some super glue, thus resealing the box, cranked up the sounds system and my half full coke can hopped out the cup holder and spilled on my leather. damn. Haha it's funny cause it's true, too

wanna hear something sad. That speed in town with the f'd up stereo. MAzda didn't replace it. Instead, he had to take it out, send it to Mazda or kenwood, they are going to look at it and determine if it's broke, fix it or whatever, then send it back or send another 1 ( probably refurbished knowing most companies).

Meantime, he has NO stereo this entire time. He's had the car 3 weeks, they just got around to deciding on doing this, now he's probaby looking at 4-6 weeks turnaround.

that's Mazda service for ya.

I read and re-read this thread... Greg, where did you find that your woofer was turned off if all you have done is messed with the audio controls (AUD) such as frequency/levels/factors?

I do not want to just reset the damn thing to see if the speaker selections go to what they are supposed to be. My guess is that we all have them wrong from the factory/port.

Please someone try this and tell me what your settings are:

1. Set to "ALL OFF"
2. Push Q
3. Select Woofer or Speaker using FM/AM buttons
4. Note down what is displayed for Speaker (mine was "OFF") and what is displayed for "Woofer" mine was set to "12in type A".

I noticed some improvement when I changed it to "8 inch" probably since the amp is now driving the corresponding amount of power to our little woofers. I also think it is better with 6/6*9 in for the speakers - it is very hard to identify changes since you have to change with the head turned off. I want to know what we should set for these because it should be a standard setting for us all since it is where you tell the head unit what equipment it has (nothing much to do with personal taste or music)

When the head unit is off...
what do you press to get into the setting mode?
do you just press the same 'audio' button???

k man i went and checked
Woofer: OFF
Speaker: OFF

BUT i dunno what the **** that means, because if you hold down the AM button while playing music, THAT turns the sub off or on. my sub is on, but it says woofer OFF.

anyways, i turned Woofer: ON and had a listen, and go figure, the sub hits HARDER with that Woofer Setting on OFF.

Hey thanks Dexter, knew someone would look at this if I asked nice enough. So which Woofer settings did you try before determining that OFF was best? Mine was set to "12 inch A" and blew chunks, I will try "OFF" now too.

Page 10 says to do this step (on p 12) before messing with the Audio Controls. My guess is that one could re-tweak the Audio controls once the speakers are right and get the best sound.

i only did 8inch and OFF. maybe its supposed to be 8inch, but for now OFF sounds good to me. im too tired to go play with the settings :)

No problem, thanks again, this has been bugging me ALL day. I was doing it while driving, better than hearing the clunk I guess. I never thought to try "OFF." 8 inch was better than 12" type A, who says size is better...

Andrew: Hi! I just got back on here, and it looks like Dexter helped you out. Excellent! Yes; for adjusting the Woofer selection, and other speaker selections, I did turn everthing off. The way I initially read your first (or second) post was that you actually 'removed' the face plate! Yeah! It's been a helluva week, I guess! Ha! And I thought; damn, there must be a Li-ion battery in the face plate so you could take in with you, or just remove it from the dash to make those adjustments!! Then when it was put back on, it connected, and updated the system. Oh well.

Anyway; since my Subwoofer has been working (and working great), I haven't looked at it's setting (10", 12"). After re-setting everything the other night, I just went in and re-adjusted my frequencies, clock, etc... All is Grins!!

Cheers!

Okay,,,,,,,, I just got in from checking my settings. (everything off, and pushing "Q" to get to speaker settings) I had performed this before when I was attempting to get my Subwoofer operating. I ended up pushing the 'Reset' button on the front of the unit to finally getting my Subwoofer working.

Very interesting. I concur with what Dex says. I like it better, I think with Speakers and Sub both "OFF". Crazy? And yes; the Sub is on, and it sounds great. A nice balance.

I also tried O.E.M. That was okay.

With Speakers 6X9 "On" and 8" Sub "On", it was too boomy, I thought.

I will listen to it again with the 8" Woofer set to On, and adjust the Bass settings, and see how that is.

Actually; The Speaker "OFF" settings may simply 'defeat' any frequency adjustments. I will check that in the morning. Hmmmmm.

Any other thoughts, by anyone else on this? I'm sure Andrew, Dex, and myself would like to hear other opinions. Thanks!

Cheers!
