I figure you guys can help me out better than the salesman at the local shop...

I have a Sony XS-L1065G (full specs here). This is a DVC sub, rated at ~150W per coil RMS. I haven't yet bought an amp, because I'm not sure what I need. Honestly, I'm kind of confused. I want to get the most power out of the sub that I safely can. I was looking at the XM-6001GXD amp... (full specs here)

My question is this: the amp is rated at 600W RMS at 2 ohms. Is it safe for me to wire up the amp to the sub in series (pulling a load of 2ohms), should I wire it in parallel, or should I just get a 150WRMSx2ch amp and wire up one channel per coil?

TIA for your help.

The amp you're looking at will work pretty good with the sub. To start off with you should power each voice coil indepently of the other so the 2ch amp is out of the question unless you wanted to bridge the two channels into one. Wiring the sub in parrell puts an 8ohm load on the amp which is kind of light unless you're running home audio stuff. just don't turn the gain 100% on the XM amp...leave it at around 65-75% and you should be fine...usually the amps are rated at max output so you're a little over matching max's on the speaker-amp ratings but you'll be fine with that setup. just remember more is better you can always turn it down, kinda hard to turn it past full.

ACK!

Ok guys, first off, for 4ohm subs, wiring them in series will create an 8Ohm load. You don't want that. Putting them in PARALLEL will yield a 2 Ohm load.
Not being a know it all, but my EET Degree actually comes in handy sometimes.
I agree about making sure you have extra juice. Always easier to turn it down.
As for your amp, you could use that one and put the coils in parallel, but my recommendation would be to use a 2 channel amp. Always has worked better for me in the past.
Hope this helps.

Ok cj, so...

If i get the Sony XM-2150GSX 2-channel amp, should I wire it one channel per voice coil, or should I bridge it? If i bridge, I will have to run the coils in parallel (read:8ohm) because the amp isn't stable at 2 ohms bridged.
