Need some help before I swap my headunit

Ok so I have a jvc single din headunit from my old car. I know I need a wiring harness vehicle specific for my car. However, my p5 has the factory subwoofer that mounts on the spare tire. Would I have to do anything special to get this to be compatable with the new headunit? Or would the vehicle specific wiring harness already have that factored in?

Never dealt with the sub since I didn't have one but I can tell you that the wiring harness you can buy on ebay for cheap.

Yea I found that and the in dash adapter to fit the hole with the little storage compartment on the bottom. Just didn't know if there is a wire wired into the wiring harness already or not.

have you pulled the unit out yet? my guess is it would bet they have rca's running that will hook up to the new unit, if not then the harness should cover it cause all the wires will match up

Check the wiring diagram here.

They will be inside of your dash somewhere. it has to go to the factory head unit somehow so the wires are there.

THere should be just 2 extra wires that go to just the subwoofer or the little amplifier that's in your car. My guess is that the old head unit has a built in crossover for that woofer and has its own wires for it.

Either that OR it's just wired in line with your rear speakers which i doubt but who knows.

When you're installing it you can try and find these wires by attatching them to the wiring harnesses speaker outputs and just wire them inline with your rear speakers or you can get a small crossover which you can wire into that line before the line that goes into your speakers.

IF the subwoofer is amplified there will also be a wire that tells your amp when to turn itself on. you can just attatch this to any acc wire or ideally the same wire that goes to your head unit for acc power.

Sorry, i know you were looking for someone who has already done this before and knows the exact steps but this is how you can find it yourself if you don't find anyone.

Thanks guys. I have wired systems before and this baffles me. Haven't taken the headunit out yet, however looking at the sub there are no RCA cables going to it. It's just a wiring harness. I know it was a factory option, just not understanding how it would work with the wiring harness as an option. Mazda wouldn't waste money on making a special harness for just an optional 100w sub. I'm gonna give crutchfield a call tomorrow, however if anyone figures it out please let me know!

I was reading some other threads yesterday, I think I put in the search "factory subwoofer" and the consensus that I got was that the signal comes off the rear speakers. I was thinking about swapping out the headunit but I am going to hold off for now.

If you look in the wiring diagram there's 2 extra rear speaker wires on it. Those are probably your sub wires. Just get a drill battery and put the speaker wires to it and hear where the sound comes out of.

I decided to go ahead and order a HU so I imagine I'll find out for sure this weekend when I install it. I'll report my findings.
