Mazda 3 MPS
Hi, this is my fisrt post on this forum. I'm from Switzerland (sorry for my bad english), and got a 3 MPS.
I already have some mods on my car: KN, SU test pipe, SU motor mount, EBC brake pads and H&R springs.

I'd like to order the Cobb Sway bar (Front/Rear), but I've seen some people use only the rear one. Is the front really useless? why? the car will oversteer with this config? Does it help on tracks? Is there no risk on highway (for example at 270km/h)??
The installation of the FSB is not a problem for me, because some people here have already installed it, no problem...

Because if the FSB is useless, I'll order only the RSB, Forge bpv, SU Billet Aluminum, and SS brake line.

So Cobb F/R sway bars or the list above.

Thanks for your help!!

same question

I was to ask almost the same thing! I want to buy the mazdaspeed coilovers kit and the COBB sway bars but are they necessary or the coilovers alone will do as good. If there is not that much of a difference, I will buy only the coilovers.

I don't do lapping or racing just like to accelerate and take some curves. How would you rate those mods. perfomance/price...

-coilovers kit
-coilovers kit + both sway bars
-coilovers kit + rear sway bar only
-COBB stage 2 (sway bars and springs)
-sway bars only
-rear sway bar only

thanks

If you have the money, the coil overs + both sway bars is the BEST option for overall suspension upgrades. However, if you're on a budget, I personally would go with the coil overs before the sway bars. Also, take a look at the BC coil over kit. I've heard lots of good things about it (a lot of people like it better than the mazdaspeed kit) and its cheaper than the mazdaspeed kit. If you get the BC's, you may be able to put the extra money into getting a front/rear sway bar combo from cobb or hotchkis with the extra money.

Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't say the FSB is useless...I plan on getting the full Hotchkis Front/Rear sway bar combo at some point. However, you probably don't NEED the front sway bar. It's really up to you. With that in mind, if you're going to buy sway bars, I would buy the full set, either COBB or Hotchkis, rather than just the rear bar. As a note, personally, I also like the Hotchkis sway bar set better than the COBB one.

Or, if you have the money, get a set of coil overs from BC or Mazdaspeed instead. It's a little more money, but I think you'll notice the difference more than with the sway bars.

Thanks (wink),

For now, i'd like to keep my H&R springs and do a little upgrade for better handling. I use my car everyday and sometimes on tracks (3-4 times per year not a lot). I also want to keep the comfort. So you think the Cobb RSB is enough for me, then I can order the Forge, bushing and SS brakes lines with it?

Yeah, I think the COBB RSB is enough. If you order the Forge BPV, SU Shifter Bushings, and SS brake lines, you'll immediately notice the difference with those more than you would with the FSB

Thanks for your advices, I'll go with the RSB + some stuff...

I am sorry gentleman to disagree, the rear sway bar is very helpful and you might notice the difference right away but I would suggest that you try to install front and rear as a tuned package, these companies know what handling they wanted from the car and the package is what they came up with. I would have suggested springs also as Cobb does. I think it is because the front bar is abit more mechanically challenging is why folks do not install. I am a little worried but I think I can do it. Welcome!

"I just give him the wrong advices.." -Arnold Schwarzenegger from Pumping Iron.... anybody ??? no ??

IMO, I think the front SB is REALLY useful as a autox car. however, I don't know if its safe on high speed.

Im runing cobb FSB and RSB. those are AWESOME to me.

Anybody else?!?
So I don't understand why Cobb sells F&R sway bar separately? Again installing the front one is not a problem for me, but if I do not need it, I prefer to save for another parts.
I'm only afraid of consequence of only RSB on a highway or highspeed tracks...

If you are going to buy the front and rear ARB's go with Hotchkis.

They produce their bars and the Cobb bars also. Both have similar specs

although the Hotchkis rear bar has the option of being stiffer than the Cobb.

They are cheaper but you have to buy them as a set. If you are going to

install the front and rear they are a better option.

Another plus is they aren't Cobb blue. They are red.(cheers)

Zaka, I think rotating is a description of handling. I just installed Hotchkis rear sway bar only. Although I have Cobb springs and Hotchkis Front sway bar in my house waiting for me to put in the car. I did the rear because it is easy to do. And when driving now, I have a good difference. The car is much happier to turn than before. It feels when you turn the steering wheel, it is lighter and faster. It feels smooth over roughness in the back and the tires stay on the road better. Maybe too fast turn in. But the front bar will balance and make the front/rear even, I think.good luck!

I believe the idea of stiffening the anti sway bars is to control body roll, which might affect weight transition in turns. and my understanding is that the wheels will stay more consistent in angle to each other. Which may create a repeatable reaction in uneven or bumpy turns. So if my car can sit down and get to business quicker just from the rear bar now. I would like to think the front would assist in keeping the tires that put down the power, planted during the more extreme aspects of driving. The springs I hope will assist in the higher speed aspects of stability and braking etc. But I really can barely afford an opinion phillyb!

The beefier RSB will make the car feel more nimble. I put one on my Ram pickup and it really woke up the handling. That was going from no RSB to a 1 1/8". The Cobb RSB is just a larger one to replace the OEM unit, so the difference may not be so radical. I ordered one last night from PG. If next weekend isn't blazing hot, I'll get it put on. It likely will be the usual Florida summer, so the project may wait a month or so.
