Miata
alright, so i recently bought a 95 miata with the 1.8l in it
im new to mazda's and im needing to know a few things.

first, im wondering how much boost can i run with just a t25 turbo, and it still being reliable
what is the best program to tune a mazda on?
and what is better to boost, the 1.6 or the 1.8?

send links also if you have a site with turbo kits, tuning programs etc.
thanks!

First of all, welcome.

Secondly, search! Use Google and type in Miata turbo, that should get you started.

Couple of quick notes though. You can't tune a Mazda ECU, you will either need to have some form of piggyback (which will modify the signals your ECU gets, not optimal), or a standalone ECU (MegaSquirt etc). If you don't do this you will grenade your engine pretty quickly. Both engines seem to take boost pretty well but the 1.8 will give you better off-boost performance. Rule of thumb for the 1.8 is you can run a max of 225 whp before you have to start replacing things like the clutch or engine internals. That seems to equate to about 10 psi of boost.

yeah ive been on google looking at other forums but people are indecisive and like to disagree with everything lol.
and i figured out the stand alone, i'm ordering the mega squirt DIY kit and my tuner is going to do it for me.
on the other hand, ive seen videos of people making like close to 300hp with a stock 1.8.
also, im planning on buying another 1.8 motor to sit aside and build as i get the money.
thanks for the advice/ help!

Yeah, every forum is like that. If you hang around and watch you'll figure out who to pay attention to and who to ignore.

Flyin' Miata and Begi (Bell Engineering) are probably the best known for their Miata turbo kits. FM tends to get better reviews on customer service.

yeah ive been reading reviews on FM. so i'll most likely go with a turbo kit from them.
going to make sure i don't buy an ebay kit. lol
hoping it turns out nice, i'll start posting pics of progress once i get home from my duty station in georgia.
