Need help with Ipod and Aux jack

Just bought a 2013 CX-5 sport and found out about all the Ipod issues. Can you use an Ipod classic using the aux jack and still use the ipod controls? I prefer that to any system navigation. Will it charge and is the sound quality the same as the USB?

I believe you would need to use USB or BT for any type of IPOD control.
