My turbo has been leaking on the ps for a while now, and now that i have the money its time to replace it.I found you can get a new chra for around $400.But i would like to up grade turbo. The problem is i dont know when i might get around to building the bottom end.My car as of right now has a turbo life fmic, sls 2.5 dp, tcs sport line 2.5 cat back, jdm intake cam,626 intake manifold injen intake and a greedy boost controler.Any advice or input would be greatly appricated.

thanks
jake

ya i think you should be good running a gt28rs on the stock block aslong as you run lowboost

^^ If it were available, It would be twice as expensive..

It would be a minimal reduction in boost threshold for DOUBLE $$$

I say Keep it simple and fine one of the thousands of old new stock that are in stores like on E-Bay rather than trying to get the "New New" just because...

found a GTX2863R and a GTX2867R and they are both a pretty penny compared to the regular GT series. Although the GT series are a pretty penny to begin with

In all my experience never go cheap on a turbo. If parts start to come apart it could wipe out the motor. Then a turbo swap will be the least of your worries.

^^why not if the potato makes more hp per lb of boost why wouldnt u especially if its spools faster then the stocker???

It doesn't spool faster than the stocker. It's a bigger turbo than the stocker so it will take more pressure to spin it. It just happens to hit a sweet spot for a 2.0L four banger for spool and peak power.
Let's face it, we have a FWD car with an engine that was designed 25 years ago to handle no boost, and a transmission that was designed to handle 170 ft lbs. You aren't going to reliably make a lot of power that you can put to the pavement without a lot of investment and/or sacrifice in drivability.

The disco is very expensive but like our stock turbo it is a ball bearing water cooled turbo that should last 100k miles easy. For most applications it is the best turbo you can bolt up to our stock manifold and down pipe. You almost always get what you pay for.

If you don't want to build the car up and have an MS3 or maybe a FRS or BRZ in your sights, just pick up another stocker.

Thanks all for the info. I picked up a low mileage gt28rs for the car a good price I couldn't pass up
