well i can relate in the fact that i ******* HATE SCHOOL and i just got my report card today and got the lowest GPA in my entire life by a lot....i am ****** dead, i swear, if i didnt love my car so much i woulda driven into a tree....

ok, sorry for the threadjack, but if u quit now, you just did all that s*** for nothing...

I never went to college, - 26 years old making a little over 40k a year.

That's the future you are looking at.

Stay in school.

Been there,

I dropped out my Sophmore year. Kind of tooled around for a while, bartending mostly. Than out of the blue joined the Navy. I can't say I really regret it. I'm not gonna dog on college, it works for some, but didn't for me. Besides, the Navy will pay for me to get my degree while I am in and I still have the G.I. Bill available when I get out.

I'm not saying it's the course for you, but it's an option. The Air Force, Navy, and Army all have good fields available for someone wanting to get into a mechanical field.

It's up to you man and you are really the only one who can figure out what is best for you. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I didn't drop out. Well, I might have a degree in English/Writing. Hmmm, with the economy the way it is I am sure I would have a great job. (Sarcasm)

At least with the job I have now I know I will have it for at least the next 5 years, probably as long as I want it after that. No lay offs. Oh and they pay me pretty well, free house, free utilites. Could be worse.

Ok, enough out of me. Good luck with the decision man.

How are you paying for school? If you have the money available, what about going someplace and getting your ASE Certification, if you want to be a mechanic.

What about transferring to a school and major in something to do with cars, like mechanical engineering or design? Or go to a local tech college with a program you are interested in.

i got some college in. is it all about money?

It's not about money, it's about CHOICE. I struggled through college and I make a shitload of money. Now, if I wanted to go and be a mechanic, I could do that. Or I could do something else. If you don't finish college, it's limits your future. There are a lot of people who never went to college and are successful, don't get me wrong, but it's a lot tougher road.

well, the fastest way to become an ASE mechanic is to do what i'm doing, head to UTI
in this school you learn only the stuff you need to learn, cars hehe
tell you more when i come back from work

yea college blows. im half way done in 3 yrs. lol... For me i work 32hrs a week, and i take 13 credits. When i was taking 15 credits the work load killed me. I really dont enjoy school, but i only got another 2 years or so.Class is not that bad, the papers and reading get really annoying...

before you totally bail on school, get a part time job at a local garage and make sure it is for you.

(werd) it isnt all about money, but at the same time, you need money to support yourself....

it really does limit your future, especially with the bad economy, there are so many ppl with degrees that need a job...if you dont have one, you are kinda screwed...and i like what Import said....if you take classes where you are learning stuff you want to learn, it wont be so bad

i went to a tech school during highschool for 3 years and got my state inspection lisence, most i ever made was $6 an hr. and was pretty much the shop b**** if you really want to be a mechanic you should at least get into some kind of tech school. they will teach you the basics and everything else goes from there. ase certification is where the money is though, you have to have 2 years of experience under your belt before they will even let you take the test though.

u sure about the 2 years thing? my auto tech teach was trying to get me to take the tests, said i could pass most of them with very little effort. he never mentioned anything about 2 years experience.

pretty sure, my teaacher was trying to work out a deal with the ase folks to where the 3 years we spent in school would be the same as 2 years experience. could be wrong though, this was like 4 years ago.

I hated college while I was there... I spent 2 years in computer engineering... I started doing real bad cause I didn't care bout it... my fam and everyone wanted me to drop out... I refused to give up, and changed my major a few times.. now, I'm a college grad working in a field I love!

I might not be making as much as I would have had I been an engineer, but its well worth the trade... I am glad I stuck through college but I'm even happier I had gone and changed to something I really got into.

I say if you want to work on car, switch out of your major... get a degree or at least a cert as an ASE mechanic, and go from there. you should get more respect from that in the field (thus not being a shop b****) vsuse you'll have more that a GED or high school diploma... thats automatically higher pay if you have a pretty paper from a college program.

God damn it! I went to college and I don't make 40k. (hand)

college helps that's for sure, but it is not the end all be all- I dropped out of college- can't say I regret it for my life- I've been doing sales though, and for money it's totally cheating- my last few years I have been breaking 50 a year, and now I own my own business- but it is a harder road to hoe

switch to mechanical engineering, and go from there.

you will learn things about machines that you never knew before.

ok, i want to get into the hands on thing. whatever. i just cant do memorization anymore. i learn best hands on.

thanks for allthe suggestions!
