Need help diagnosing noise from Engine (2013 CX-5)

:
Mazda cx5 sport 2013`
Hi last week i was driving my 2013 cx5 sport 2.0 with 198k and felt like i had a bad sparkplug coil pack misfire thought nothing of it when i got home car sounded like a diesel engine. i replaced the spark plugs and two coil packs drove back and forth to work about 150 miles all together and if click on google link seee the video what sounds like i was hoping was water pump making this horrible sound. i waited few days till had time drive to auto shop drove about 1/4 mile and car shut down. was able to turn on in neutral but when put in gear turned off and light up like Christmas tree. had towed in but mechanic said sounds like the main bearing check oil and spot on in level and smelled fine.anyone have an idea from video i took ? thanks

There is a sensor that detects cylinder detonation and retards the timing when needed. I would check that. Ed

Before getting your shorts in a knot and left pennyless by a repair shop, I have a suggestion - remove the front drive belt and see if the noise subsides. It sounds a bit "cyclic" like the sound of rotating things like a bearing or water pump impeller. I'm not sure if you have one of those "stretch to fit" belts for the water pump (you didn't say engine size) but that should be removed as well, but, make sure you have a replacement belt as they're usually a one-time use. Idler pulleys, tensioner pulleys, water pumps and even alternators can make these type of noises. I assume with the hood open that the noise comes from the front of the engine but if it comes from the rear that's something altogether different. If belt removal doesn't change the situation, and the noise is in the front, I'd suspect an issue behind the timing cover. Please keeps us updated on the repair.

If you watch the video where it shows the belt on the alternator (from 15secs on), the sound precisely matches the belt markings movement. Check the belts and pulleys to see if a belt is frayed, or a pully is bent, or bearings are shot. Hopefully it's not the alternator itself, or the A/C compressor.

OP said 2.0L in post

Not sure where OP is located but in US market all CX-5 in 2013 were 2.0L

OP: From the looks of that video and your description, your car must have ECU codes coming out the ying-yang. Has anyone checked that yet?!

Sounds like a pulley bearing going bad, maybe the tensioner or alternator, actually anything being driven by the belt
