Need clutch advice ASAP!

I need to order a new clutch TODAY. I always planned on an ACT, but I see that the Spec clutches are considerably cheaper. Here's the situation:

I plan on running 250whp (about the same torque) MAXIMUM. More than likely I will be around 220whp when all is said an done. So I can get by with a Stage I. So it all comes down to feel. Unlike most people, I like a slightly stiffer clutch feel, as long as it isn't mushy. For reference, the stock Evo clutch is just right.

I plan on getting the whole clutch kit, not just the disc. It's pretty much between the ACT HD Performance Street kit and the Spec Stage I kit.

Now, I need the parts at my doorstep by Friday afternoon, so shipping is a factor, too. I see HPF has a good deal going on the Spec Stage I for $245 shipped, and I would get the SS clutch lines for $20, too ($265 + overnight shipping). Is there any reason to get the ACT over the Spec Stage I? The cost difference is quite a bit, unless someone knows where I can get a really good deal on the ACT.

Thanks guys!

ACT all the way. Spec clutchs are junk. I wish I had purchased an ACT. Just this morning the POS Spec clutch was slipping, chattering, and smelling real bad. Please dont get a Spec clutch. My car is one big pile of crap after this clutch was installed. I only have about 8000 miles on this clutch.(boom07)

Alright, I've pretty much decided on the ACT HDSS. I think I'm going to order a flywheel at the same time since I'm affraid that it will be toast and can't be resurfaced. I am set on the lightened flywheel that Corksport has because of the price. I just hope that wthey will pricematch on the clutch. I found it for $350 shipped at a couple places.

Fwheew, just got off the phone with Derrick at Corksport. Basically they gave me the best deal and met my deadline. Thank God they have a warehouse by me with the part in stock. A+!

yeah,I don't mind my spec stage 3 hybrid, but it does slip easy when letting it out,but it does grab nicely when let out rapidly.

(first) Good choice! Post up after you get it all installed. You will love the flywheel.

I wish I could have gotten the flywheel, but Derek said that they were installing their last one today. I may get one down the line, but I was hoping to do it at the same time as the clutch. My buddy and I are installing it tomorrow or Friday, depending on when it gets here, and I am Speedless until then.

I thought your lsd snapped?

Get the spec dude. ACT went down the shitter about a year ago. They used to have their actual disks manufacutered by exedy, and then the cost cutters changed thier manufactuer and now they are absolute crap. Even the DSM boys who swear their lives on ACT 2600's have gone elsewhere because of disks shattering or massive clutch failure after a couple of thousand of miles.

My SPEC has been nothing short of amazing. Stock engagment, holds like a motherfucker, no chatter, no shudder, nothing. Everything you could want from a clutch and then some.

So did I. I found out the $110 way that it was the clutch instead. The clutch was my first thought when it happened, but then I heard some grinding which made me think gears in the LSD. It was probably just the rivets running on the flywheel. It was very short, so I'm hoping it will be fine with a resurface.

All I did was take Linux Racers old ACT pressure plate and rework it and then replaced my clutch disc with one from Clutch Masters. I also reworked my stock fly wheel and it feels just like my stock MSP clutch and niether one has ever slipped no matter if I dumped the clutch and high boost. So I'm quite happy to only spend $69 and have a good setup, maybe not great , but good... atleast I have yet to make either one slip... and that includes a few runs at 19psi on MPnicks turbo upgrade...

On a side note, does anyone know off hand whether Mazda Roadside Assistance will tow from a dealership to your house for free? They took me to the dealer for free, but I have a feeling that they won't to it FROM a dealer for me.

I think you're screwed on that part of the deal.

Yeah, I figured. At least I have AAA, although I'm farther than the 5 mile max that they tow for free. I think it's not much after that, though.

Maybe you can just ask the driver they send out for you if he minds and the flip him a 20 or something.

Good idea. That's about how much it will cost me anyway, though.
