It seems the accepted best place to run a power cable (for an amp, inverter, etc.) is between the aluminum heat shields and the firewall.
People have said that this works, but is a PITA to install. Also, once the wire was in there I'd worry about it melting or something.
What about bringing the cable up under the big black plastic thing by the windshield wipers? I pulled a small part of it up and it looks like it'll be easy enough to remove (or pry up if nothing else) and it seems like there will be plenty of room. To get the wire in there may require drilling a hole in the plastic (big woop right?). Also, this thing is made of plastic, it must say pretty cool.
