NavSystem Camera override...?

I am wondering if anyone (here or anywhere else) has figured-out how to manually engage the rear-view camera when the vehicle is NOT in Reverse. (?)

I would find it particularly useful since I keep my music equipment in my car 24/7 and it blocks my rear-view mirror almost 100%. I would love to be able to momentarilly engage it to get additional visibility before changing lanes in heavy traffic.

Has anyone seen/heard of anything...?

Would it be nice everytime you hit the turn signals....yeah the car has tremendous blind spots.

You don't need a camera for what you're talking about....just turn your head and look over shoulder to check the blind spot...works beautifully, 100% of the time. Very low-tech, but effective! Just like they taught in driving school. Oh, maybe they don't have driving schools in MA? LOL.(yippy)

All kidding aside, try this link. http://www.avelectronic.com/License-Camera.htm. That may solve your dilemma.

You may have misunderstood.

That link shows a product with a cam...

I already HAVE the cam built-in with the GT package. I am just curious to find if anyone has figured-out how to enable it at-will to show rearward view while driving forward. I don't want more/new gear - just info on the ability to modify what I have to work the way *I* want it to.

Oh, I understood what you were talking about. Obviously, the OEM cam is tied in with some switch on the tranny. But just in case, it can't be circumvented, I provided the link, cuz I think you can have that supplemental backup cam on full-time with the vid link module you can buy from that company. Something you'll have to confirm. Worth checking out, huh?
