Here's something to play with if you have the Navigation option. Go to the menu, Navigation Setup. Click on Calibration, then Show Version. Now, with the joystick do two clicks up, then two clicks down. You now have a new menu with choices of screens that get into details of the satelites, dead recconing sensors, GPS based digital speedometer and other fun stuff. I am not sure it is good for anything except entertainment, but is it always cool to have cheat codes for stuff. You can check you speedometer accuracy.

BTW did you know that the Australian verison of the CX-7 DOES have a trip computer.
Why not us?

Yeah, that's nice... so where exactly is this joystick? BTW, I have the Workshop Manual and it also describes this procedure for entering navi diagnostic mode. Guess they forgot to adapt it to the touchscreen CX-7.

nkabak, prove me wrong. These little tricks DO NOT work for the Navigation system put into the CX-7. There is NO joystick.

Vince.

I just wish the navigation screen was brighter during the day. Sometimes it is really hard to see. It isn't a "tilt it" option, it is just not bright enough. Contrast and Brightness doesn't help. I want it BRIGHT! ;)

No apology needed

Yo Vince,

I only quoted the piece from the Mazda 3 forum.

Sorry

Yeah, me too. This has been commented upon, before. Some users seem to think that the auto settings will help or tweak the brightness knob on the dash. But to no avail! (sad1)

Correct me if I'm wrong but the brightness issue on the NAV screen is sometimes caused by glare and/or reflection during the daytime. Another factor is the fingerprint marks.

Well, I bought some screen protectors from eBay and it eliminated the problem with glare and fingerprint marks thus improving visibility. I also toggled with the settings to make it always bright enough for me not to complain...not too bright, not too dark.

add to that, there is actually a high/low setting that is effected by adjusting the brightness of the cluster/dash lights (the top left toggle stick on the center cluster)

Just remember, to adjust the brightness, you have to have the lights *ON*, and then twist the adjustment to full bright until the car *beeps* at you. I went for a month and a half with a screen I couldn't use. The dealer had no idea what to do. One day I was just messing with it and found that if you have the lights *ON*, and *PRESS* the thing in, it over-rides and goes seriously bright. Still, during the day it is dark, but at least the over-ride helped a tremendous amount.

Joystick right in front of you

What are you guys BLIND. Oyeah I gorgot you mortals dont have Xray vision like me. The JoyStick is in visible. Touch the screen in the uper and lower left corners to activate the useless hidden diagnostic mode.

and It sucks that only the non-nav models can activate the trip computer.

maybe some one even smarter than me can figure it out for the GT(im just an average genieus)(headbang)

Mere mortals thank you for your indulgences and directions. We will attribute your errors to poor typing skills considering your out of Earth orbit physique rather than your inability to spell.(bowdown) (yawn)

Don't know if this helps, but if I press and hold the "voice" button for few seconds, I can adjust brightness and contrast of the screen.

Mine's a speed6 though, but should be the same. Came across this by accident.

Sorry of it's covered before, just though i'd chip in.

There a dedicated button for the contrast, brightness and tilt on the CX-7. It's the DISP button.

The Nav system in the CX-7 is different than the one in the 6. It has a touchscreen and voice control.
