Navigation Problem

Hey everyone,

My mother bought a CX-9 just shy of 2 years ago. I havent heard any complaints from her yet lol. However, about 6 months ago the navigation system stopped working all together. She is either too busy or just not interested in taking it to the dealership to have them look at it idk, but it bugs me and I rarely drive the car.

The problem is this: When you try to access the Navi system it says there is no map CD installed. Now i have checked and verified that there is infact the correct Navi CD in the drive but it is like the HU isnt registering it. Is it possible a connection came lose somewhere? Are there any wiring diagrams floating around I could maybe look at. I am pretty technical/handy and have done a whole slew of modifications to my own vehicle (Infiniti G35) so if I have to pull the HU or take something apart that doesnt bother me.

If someone could please help me out I would greatly appreciate it. I would really like to get this problem resolved for my mother.

Thanks,
StreetChase

Simple things?

If you turn the key far enough to power the nav system, but without the engine running, and it's quiet enough, do you hear any seeking activity when you insert the DVD?

It might be that the disc is scratched or dirty. Examine the playing surface as you would for a video DVD; perhaps try the other disc in the set.

Does the slot where the disc loads have dust or dirt around it? The DVD lens might be dirty. Gently vacuum away the debris, then try one of those DVD lens cleaning discs with the tiny brush embedded in it.

Good luck!

I can't hear anything and nothing changes on the display. The cd is scratch free and dust free as well. The DVD compartment is sealed pretty well too so there is no dust in there. I'm thinking it's more of a connection problem as opposed to an actual dirt or disk read problem

EDIT: when I checked earlier I couldn't really see the screen very well because of the glare. The screen does change when I eject the Nav disc. It goes from saying a MAP CD is not installed to saying please insert a MAP CD when i eject it. Has anyone ever known the DVD Nav drive to go bad? I can hear the drive spinning for a good 30 seconds but then I just stops.

Could be a defective DVD or defective DVD ROM reader. Incorretly burnt DVDs will display that message as I have seen on my car.

Is this the original disc in the drive? White Mazda label etc.? If not, perhaps someone swapped it before she bought it.

It is the original disk. I could see if it was a problem from the get go but it only happened a few months ago and we have had the car for almost 2 years.

WorkShop manual page for it

See the attached page.
This is what the mechanic would do.
Better fix it before OE warranty expires. It is expensive to replace the head unit if that is where the problem is.
