Nav unlock/hack/override thread

Ok.. I looked at all the threads on here. Doesn't look like anyone has really attempted overriding the NAV "disclaimer" message or the speed sensitive gray-out of certain functions (Destinations, etc.).

Our Nav system if made by Denso. It seems to be very similar to Toyota and Lexus units (no bluetooth, though).

The Denso units in Toyota/Lexus had method of turning the speed sensitive grey-out off in their 5.1 version of software. This was eliminated in their 6.1 version of software. So the only way to do it on a Toyota/Lexus is to either cut a violet wire (or put a switch inline for this wire) or buy a Lockpick 3 (wiring harness) from a company called Coastaltech.

It looks like the version of Denso DVD that is in our units is also 6.1. The software override doesn't work.

I emailed Coastaltech about their device, to see if it would work on the CX-7. Although I've heard they don't respond to emails very well.

Anyone looked at the Nav in our units to see if it has the same Violet wire arrangement as the Toyotas?

The has got to be some way of overriding the lockout of the GPS.

Keep us up to speed....that freeze/speed thing SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have you gotten this to work. I have a friend that has the cx-9.
I have the camry 07 with the 6.1. There is no need to cut wires. All you have to do is copy the 5.1 and the 6.1 dvd in your computer. Then copy the loading.forget the ext. but overwrite it and the firmware goes to 5.1 but you get the updated maps. Please inform me if the 5.1 6.1 is the same as the toyota?

Yeah.. I saw the 5.1 vs. 6.1 stuff on the toyotas. The problem is that I don't think there are any CX-7s with 5.1 DVDs.

Two yeas old post is awaken!

Anyone ever got this to work in the past two years?

I have the Toyota Denso 5.1+7.1 hybrid, and I am 100% positive Toyota's LOADING.KWI does not work on my CX-9, nor it is the same as Mazda's LOADING.KWI.

I've actually just been researching the nav software on the CX-9 and here's what I've found thus far:

The LOADING.KWI file is clearly loaded by the nav on first power one (eg. if you remove the battery cable or the large white plug on the back of the unit). This file appears to have four "sections" in it called "KN17", "MB17", "MB21" and "MZ17". I'm guessing each section applies to a slightly different model of hardware or something. My money is on the MZ17 for the Mazda...

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to tell which section is being actually loaded because it looks like the units firmware validates a checksum before activating the software to make sure what it's loading isn't "corrupt" -- if I try and feed it a modified file it gets about 50% of the way through the loading process and goes back to the beginning. This gets a little expensive to test at $2/blank for the dual layer media. I'm going to try to see if it'll attempt to load if there's just the LOADING.KWI file so I can test with much cheaper single layer blanks.

I think I might be able to make some progress figuring out the checksum bits if folks can provide me with copies of their LOADING.KWI files from various versions of the software. I have two discs for this system bearing the following versions (from the VERSION.TXT file):

2006 ver.2
2007 ver.2

If you have a version that's different then drop me a line and we can see about getting it over here.

Of course that's just the first small hurdle -- then I'd need to be able to figure out how to modify the software in some meaningful way...but baby steps.

Also, if someone has a wiring diagram showing what all the connections on the back of the unit are I'd really appreciate it.

Cheers!

Interested as well

I am very interested in this as well for the 2009 Mazda 6. Anything I can do to help? (I have a background in computer science)

Thanks

Folks,
Thanks for the LOADING.KWI files and the wiring diagram.

Unfortunately, I think I've come to the realization that this is much more difficult problem than I hoped. I haven't even made it to trying real changes to the software -- I've gotten stuck with trying to get the system to recognize even the smallest of cosmetic changes (changing a word on the menu).

For those interested, I've been tracking my work on a free Wiki here:

denso.wikispaces.com

I hope that someone can build on what I've put there (as incomplete as it is). The wiki is open to the public to edit so if you have something to add or want to use it as a place to document things that have been tried, please feel free.

I'll keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get defaced or anything (or if some brilliant person figures it out!). Who knows, maybe maybe I'll have a bolt of lightening inspiration down the road, but for now this one has me stymied.

Has anyone figured this out? I almost never use the nav because it is so annoying to have to stop.

I assume there's no update here, but I was curious if anyone has at least tried to update the firmware at least. If so, where do you get firmware updates?
