National Mazda Cannonball Rally

We could get around that by having the "public" part of the event be the caravan of cars traveling for a cause, and I would hope a lot of cars would do that. If some cars broke away from the group for "recreational driving" as part of the event that would be out of our control.

true true. what this event really needs is a HOW-TO for organizing such a huge function. if anyone knows any type of planner type person with expertise or someone to lay down the ground rules that would be awesome.

I have experience with setting up training seminars around the country, and I have a degree in marketing, so I am willing to take it on - obviously with help. I'm not trying to take this over from anyone else, but I'm willing.

:marks this down, to look back at with regret later

most colleges here have summer from may20-aug20 or june 20-sep20. so idealy for the college crowd a date between june 20th and august 20th would be ideal.

i think the charity idea is great. but i foresee a huge problem trying to get charities to ok a fund raiser in which a bunch of late-teen/twenty somethings (mostly male) drive across the country. that just smells like trouble.

do like habitat for humanity.....

have each club across the country put out HFH collection jars in local businesses like at gas stations or whatever.

Then those driving in the run get sponsored like a bowlathon for how many miles you drive by local businesses or maybe even individuals, also for the charity. Put a little something together, a sheet of paper with your total number of miles driven at the top, the total donation owed, and a couple before/after pictures of the odometer and car and give that to your sponsors when its all done as a "plaque" for having donated to the charity when you collect their money.

And as these sponsored cars are driving across the country (some the whole way others only a few hours or what have you) those going all the way collect all the HFH donations from the clubs along the way.

I think this makes the whole run 100x better. But if drunken tomfoolery and illegal activities are going to be commonplace in this event then maybe the charity angle isnt a good idea.

I dont know that I could get however long off from work this would take, but if we did a charity run like described above and not just a cannonball thingy, I would seriously consider participating coast to coast and would definitely be down for putting in some solid time in working to help organize it.

just read up above a couple posts, looks like some of this was already said but you get the idea :)
media coverage and free hotel rooms along the way could be a definite possibility if you work something like this out with the charity. In fact I would check with mazda too....I mean this is the kind of publicity they could only dream about. Jeep loves the opoprtunity to brag abuot its owners' clubs and so do a lot of other car makers but this would be bragging about a generous charitable and enthusiastic following.....even better!

but like i said above. if you are planning any illegal tomfoolery - as I suspect you are since kyle is the boss hog of this hazzard county - then charities probably arent a good idea:)

(lol) excellent!!

As a disclaimer, this will probably prove to be too expensive, but if it's possible, it may make it work...

If you still want the shenanigans to happen, you could try to set it up like the "One Lap" event in where you drive to tracks and race there and the winner is the one with the lowest overall time from the tracks.

Like I said, probably too expensive, but maybe worth a look.

... and now I'm waiting to be pistol-whipped.

Count me in.

Let's just not make the same mistake those VW dumba$$es made on their recorded fun run.

You'd all be rather surprised how quickly a company will donate to this type of thing. We could try hookin' up with Autozone, Mazda USA, Mobil 1, Big-0, Midas, Shell, 7-11, Lukas, Marriot, Hilton, Radission, vendors from the forums, Sport Compact, Super Street, Import Tuner etc. (read: Everyone who could make our lives cheaper if they give us a discount for driving all together across the country using their product) doesn't matter if they say "no" because u gave them a chance to say "yes" Just visit your local chain and ask for corporate headquarters number in ur area after we get this thing planned out, a professional website set up, and names on the tickets.

i want to find some nw members and we can all trailor down together. so anybody from wa, bc or oregon thinking abt going? i have access to a semi and all we would have to do is rent a trailor and pay gas.... if we got a car trailor that can hold at least 8 cars.... plus the driver would be my engine guy so any mechanical problems he can pretty much fit.... then he will follow us....(way behind us in a semi) and take our cars back to the nw! just trying to get some nw people intrested!!

I'd love to go, but what're the costs of trailering like? Better than driving it down? Or are you guys just worried about yer fancy-ass mods? ;) j/k

If I work out the costs and prepare a powerpoint presentation and projected expense report, I very well could table this proposal with my wife!
