while I try to pick up tips on these forums ,having an 11 year old son on weekends prevents me from doing just about anything not involving him such as gathering with other gearheads at meets and such. this weekend I did not have him and by coincidence my cousin invited me to his house where he was having a Saab 92x aero meet (wrx wagon sister car) , most of them got some tweaks . 11 aeros showed up, 1 legacy , one 2 door sti heavily modified and yours truly with a speed3. after some wrenching we bbq ed and went out in the canyon for some cruising. about 10 cars just cruised the canyon and 4 of us (2 saabs the sti and myself) agreed we would blow through it. I am 34 years old , haved had cars from 107hp honda to a 765hp nitrous assisted big block Luv truck so I have seen both ends of the spectrum. Anyways out of the 4 cars carving the canyon I was 3rd in line and the sti 4th ,about a minute into the run on a particular steep but quick turn I saw in my rear view mirrors the sti drifting heavily at a decent speed and thought to myself wow that takes some balls ....a second later he tried to correct the car back and began losing control and fishtailed until the car spun around and plowed straight into the mountain to our right, his car's front end was gone.
the point I guess is to warn you guys out there that when we meet with other car guys sometimes our brains get overriden by our egos and hard work and money goes down the drain ,and if you feel the need to test your skills on a road course you better be aware of your car and it's capabilities. No one got hurt and 2 of us finished the run (by the way this car is by far the best handling front w d car I have ever been in.) Take what you will from this post.
