those engine covers don't really "NEED" anything to hold them down...

So, does it snap onto the valve cover or are you saying gravity is all that's needed to hold it down? I'd like it secured down.

Also, it's going to be odd putting an MP3 cover on a P5 engine.

IIRC, the MP3 and MSP both have valve covers with four vertical bolts that the covers go on to. Then I'm assuming four nuts are used to secure it down:

gravity will hold it in place well enough. there was a member here long ago that had one in his protege5. he was running a version of the MSP turbo set-up, and has the engine cover just resting on top of his protege5 cam cover. never would have known it wasn't secured if you didn't know what to look for, or didnt try to lift it off. he ran his car as a daily driver like that for at least a few years.

I see. That valve cover in the picture above the plastic cover has studs/bolts for mounting purposes. I just checked and the valve cover on my P5 does not have those. Huh!

And after a quick search I found there are brackets I'd want/need to get for my cam cover to mount the plastic cover. Thanks for the info. I'm going to find/wait for another that just has the Mazda emblem on it. I guess the previous owner of my P5 took it off or his mechanic left it off. Gah!

Just to hopefully avoid confusion...from what I have recently been able to find, the Japanense versions of the 2.0L motors had the engine covers (meaning non MP3 or Mazdaspeed), but again these were the Japanese versions. The North American version of the 2.0L didnt not have these covers (you had to get an MP3 or Mazdaspeed Protege). The covers with the Mazda symbol, I am guessing, can probably be found somewhere in Japan, I have been trying to find the cover, bracket and specific valve cover. Just yesterday I found a seller on eBay selling the cover with the brackets for $140 (just the cover and bracket) - the specific valve cover he is also selling in a seperate auction for $160...to expensive for my taste. I just bought a Mazdaspeed cover that I will figure out how to mount onto the stock valve cover...OR, weld on threaded bosses, make brackets and be done. DG Motorsports used to make a carbon fiber engine cover with some sort of bracket for non MP3 or MSP...I wish I knew how they designed it because I am having a heck of a time figuring how to mount this...any ideas?

Perhaps some JB Weld high heat epoxy to fasten a few bolts to the VCwith the threads pointing up of course. You could then thread down a nut to where you want the cover to sit, put a washer on, then the plastic cover, another washer and one last nut. You got me thinking now...
