Name that Sound

So on my 08 MS3, I have noticed that at idle, when I just turn my wheels, it sounds like the engine revs a little bit. The tachometer does not move but if I turn my wheels it sounds like if I was pushing the accelerator.

Anyone else notice this?
Anyone know what this is?

almost every car does it. I think its the power steering being used.

I think it's not the engine, I think that's the whatever runs the steering running the steering, as I believe our car is steer-by-wire and we aren't actually linked up via the steering wheel.

This is a def a response to my question.

I had alot of cars but I never heard the power steering raise the rpms. But it makes sense now.

Yes the throttle is drive by wire.... technically your braking is also drive by wire given the computer can override your input (Antilock/TC) and steer by wire is being developed but you wont find it in a 20K econobox speed demon any time soon...I dont think its on ANY actual production car at the moment...

I still think the whole "drive by wire" is a misnomer.... old throttle cables were a wire connected to the throttle body - that is a more accurate "drive by wire" description than the current sense the position of the throttle pedal, send the position to the computer which in turns analyzes it and adjusts the fuel mixture accordingly...

I have the same issue with fly-by-wire - thats how it was in the old days... a cable connected from control surfaces to the stick...damn misnomers
