Hey guys, I got a nail in my tire and got it plugged this morning. I was thinking about just replacing it, so I was wondering if I have to buy the exact same brand as what's on there now (if I only replace the one) and if I can just replace one? Or should I replace 2 at a time for even wear? The car only has 5k miles and the tires aren't that worn.

Thanks!

Tim

I just had a plug put in a brand new tire on my Civic and it didn't hold. I had to buy another tire. The tire had maybe 80 miles on it. Cost me $225. :(

Unless the damage was too severe or at/near the sidewall, a plug should hold well against your typical nail in tire flat. May be the plug was not installed properly (time to cure or not trimmed properly)? Did the tech advise using a patch instead? Sounds like an awful waste of a perfectly good tire. If the patch cannot fix the puncture then it is prob beyond repair and not safe to continue using.

Uh, yeah! Tell me about it!

Take it somewhere to have it patched. Plugs are like duck tape, or holding your trunk shut with bungee cords.

Yeah, 4 years @ Discount Tire. Things have changed just a bit since then, but most of my knowledge isnt outdated yet. Not like I was in the business before radials came out or anything!! Ask away.
