NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

Very true. And while I'm posting this in the "Race to 200 whp" thread, I really don't see myself going after the title at all.

I figure that removing the VTCS will help some and polishing the inside (and outside- can't get around that with this method of polishing) of the manifold will help some. Those 2 "somes" will add up to "a little". And when you add up the "little" from here and the "some" from lightweight pullies and the "little" from the CAI and the "little" from the exhaust you start to get "a few".

Price wise, I've got $75 into the manifold (which I should be able to get back when I sell the manifold that's on my car) and soaking the manifold in the polisher shouldn't cost too much (maybe $20???). So in the end, if all I have is $20 + new gaskets invested in this project + my time (which I bill as free since this is a hobby), then I don't see it as a bad hp/$$ gain.

And who knows, maybe it will flop and be completely counter productive- but at least there will be record of it for future people wondering the same thing.

I'm not really interested in trying to build an intake mani like you LordWorm. It sounds awesome, but like you stated, it's going to be extremely expensive and time consuming. I'm curious if the single runner mani from the 626 would be worth hunting down, or possibly the one from protege garage? Any thoughts on those?

people will say its a "turbo only" upgrade because it will gut torque like nothing else....

i've never actually worked with one of the PG manifolds, but i'd give it a go...it really can't be any worse than the standard mani.

^^And if you don't like it, there is a good chance that you can get most of your money back out of it by selling it to a turbo guy. Go for it. Get a dyno before and after please!

^~~~you cant really lose all that much seeing as how we really dont have that much to loose. And untill someone actually dynos this "gutting of torque", its all but dyno.

Oh and Lord. Im gonna be looking for a donor car just to make the swap easier having all the parts in on place( most likely an MX-6) as manual 626s are almost no existant. So the search is gonna take a bit of time. although I may just pic the engine up first since that will obviously take the most time. Just trying to get this damn project started is the killer. Everything else will be downhill, cause the way i see it, its a learning experience. And very valuable info will be had from this.
If it wasnt for my stupid heart almost giving out on me, Id be all over this already....lol

Oh yeah, I forgot you are localish to me. The ColoradoMazdaClub is going to get a spring dyno meet together at some place- we haven't decided where yet. We did a dyno day back in September up here in Parker at MAC Autosport. There is an Eddy Current Dyno in the Springs though (suppose to simulate real road conditions better than an inertial reel dyno). I would like to go back to MAC just to use the same dyno that I used before.

what motor are you going with now?

Still the KL. I need the parts from the MX-6 to do the swap.

Buddy of mine put it in his N/A P5 auto, and had a terrible time with it...It would idle like crap and the engine would choke up when you started to give it gas...Just didn't run right...The dual runner system was engineered to help top end and low end...seperately, not together...therefore dual runners...

soo how's things coming along 6 pages and not a single person with 200hp? comon! ahahaha sike that's gonna be reaaal tough...
gluck to those with money and time!

How come automatic 626's (with the *same* engine that we get int he P5) have no trouble running 626 manifold NA?

I'd suggest your friend's idle problem was more to do with the tune, than the manifold itself.

Duel runner was designed to provide 2 distinct intake geometries, you are right, but it is FAR from ideal..... it flows poorly, it is turbulent, the runners are not the right length (for either low or high) and the end result is a very poor manifold.

The 626 manifold is proven to flow more, and is more suited to upper mid range and top end power than the P5 manifold ever will be. That being said, its *not* the be all and end all, and it is far from perfect (5 minutes with the mathematics and you can get the numbers you need to make a far more ideal solution....then its just down to your design and fabrication skills to make a workable design....)

The intake manifold is one of the single biggest weaknesses of our set up..and is something that needs to be explored if anyone is even remotely serious about pulling a number out of an FS.

it'd be cheaper to buy a honda, and it'd be cheaper to go turbo but that not why im doing this.

Yah, your right. Didn't mean to discurage you or anything, in fact I would really like to see it done. Just saying you got your work cut out for you, but of coarse any engine swap is alot of work. Good luck and make sure to keep us updated. (drinks)
