NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

is it okay to have leaded 120 octane gas mixed with a little unleaded gas? ill be going to the track soon and they have 120 octane leaded... and since i wont have cats, for race use only, i can run leaded gas... i was just checking just in case i couldnt empty out my gas tank... and im sure race fel will make a difference?

for starters, unless you can tune for 120 theres no benefit..
If you are still on the stock ECU, it has a limit as to how far it can advance the timing.......

Secondly, i wouldn't blend fuels...idealy if you are going to run a 120 race map in the future, you would install a drop tank for your race fuel...and swap over at the track.

true... i guess its back to 93... or maybe even 100 unleaded... thanks... and do automatics really lose a lot of power getting it to the ground? tom dynoed at 99whp with his previous setup, he has mroe mods than me.... does that mean im only doing like 92whp? im sure manuals are hitting around 100whp stock right?

auto boxes are definantly more lossy. You only need to look at the design of the box to get an indication of this.

Look on how stuff works for an explaination of a torque converter. Essentially, it is a fluid coupling - and as such the engine side of the converter is always spinning slightly faster than the gearbox side (this is why cars with auto transmissions rev slightly higher for the same road speed at a given gear ratio).

Thats not to say autos are "bad"...you just need to throw more power at them in the first place. My race car is getting an old Turbo 400 slushbox thrown at it......because it will be more reliable at my input power than any manual box of simillar cost....

do you think withnan ems you would be able to mess with stuff like that? maybe even gear ratio and the final drive? or is that all tranny work... and is it possible for an auto to get work like that...

ems can't magically change the gear ratios no...

however, there are transmission modifications you can do. Valve body modifications which will make the transmission shift faster/harder, stall kits to allow you to "stall up" the engine before the transmission engages (thats one of the ways racers are able to 'launch' a car with an auto tranny at high RPM).

My race box going in my rear wheel drive turbo drag machine will have a stage 3 shift kit, which essentially gives completely manual shifts (box wont change gears until i tell it to), with a transbrake (a solenoid which essentially engages 1st and reverse simultaniously, to lock the transmission on the line), and a monster stall.

No reason why these sorts of modifications can't be done to the sports auto trans - wouldn't be cheap, but its doable......

so trying to gain power with the stock tranny is going to be hella hard... trying to put the power from the crank to the wheel is going to take a lot more work... so let's say it takes 236HP to hit 200wHP with a manual tranny... i just guessed a random number.... it would prolly take ~249HP for an Automatic to get the same wHP? these numbers arent accurate... i was just saying its going to take a lot more work than usual... plus tranny work just so it could handle the power...

the more i think about it the more it makes me want to do the KL swap already... its just... maybe $4 - 5k installed and ready to go... but will the mounts im about to put in fit the KL? its the AWR mounts...

Yeah the auto is at a major disadvantage...

I'm not sure about your mounts. From what i've read its a straight bolt in (so mounts should be transferable) but i'm not 100% sure...
its something that you will need to research... MakeMeGoFast would be someone worth talking to, he's been discussing teh swap with some of the crazy canadians who've done it already :)

will the KL-DE built with internals put out equal power as a KL-ZE with the same internals and ECU? i also might go ITBs so the ZE IM wouldn't make a difference
i got quotes for a KL-DE real cheap in-state so i'm wondering if i should go for it... i could get it before summer even and have it installed by the end of this year

Subscrizzle...

This looks like fun kinda makes me wanna take my turbo off.
(slaps self)
Ok changed my mind.

About the auto tranny power loss... the way I learned to understand the torque converter is one fan blowing another fan that way the engine can slip in relation to the transmission to keep the car running at a stop. The process causes power loss kinda like a slipping clutch...

Pull the auto tranny out of a VW GTI to get the best of both worlds but that's another story...

yeah this seriously fell hard. People never really followed through. Including myself. I'm still working on my suspension though.

Your a sellout(argh)......j/k.....lol

But you did find an alternative way for NA to tune with SS. kudos for that at least

Things like this take time.... Jimmysuite put his build together and got it done.... but not to 200whp.... i expected that this "race" would take a year or more to see a result...
