MZ3 Reliability

Hi,

I'm reading this forum since a week or 2, and I'm wondering if I should buy a MZ3 2004 or wait a little bit.

I'm concerned by all the various problems that I saw on this forums and on edmund. Is it "normal" for a new model, or something went wrong ?

I did a test drive of the MZ3 2 weeks ago and I loved it (compared to my '97 Corolla).

Of course, I know it's in the human nature to complains when something goes wrong, but when it's fine, it's possible that you won't hear a thing about it. So maybe there's 20 persons having problems with their MZ3, and thousands that don't.

Any comments would be appreciated.

20 vs. thousands....

It is entirely up to you. I bought a 2002 P5 Protege' and that particular series of Protege' had been out since 99' and it still had some unique little/major problems. I agree with you.....every manufacturer is gonna have some number of cars that are not absolutely perfect...Honda, VW, BMW, Nissan, Toyota, all the American makes and yes even Mazda. I have heard from many of these owners of these makes and not every single one is gonna be right. Heck, just look at forums for all makes....They are there to voice opinions on problems and get help and solutions to make em' right. But many people from all brands never even visit a forum to say how "great'" their car has been....You are right in that regard!

With first year models, you may take a chance, but I think the theory to outright avoid them is total "wack". My new MZ3 is way better built than my P5 could have ever hope to be and it shows in all the details. Yea, I am a little concerned about this "groove" issue on the rotors, but it has a year to get fixed with the "wear item" part of the warranty. And my dealer is already aware of potential issues with them and has their customers keeping an eye on the situation.

Avoid it???, heck no...buy it, only if you like it and remember,,,,,it is a mechanical piece with many moving parts......Nothing is absolutely perfect 100% of the time.

good luck
