MZ3 5-door owner...I'll never go back to a sedan!

I have a 2006 Mazda3 s 5-door Touring (purchased 12/05). It has a manual transmission and the color is Titanium Gray with Black/red checked interior.

It's funny how I ended up with the 5-door. I was shopping for the 's' Touring 4-door (with manual transmission in Titanitum Gray) and it was nowhere to be found! The 's' Sport 4-door was plentiful, but it lacked the 17" alloys that I wanted!

Then I realized that ALL U.S. versions of the 5-door come with the 17" wheels. So I decided that I'd take a 5-door if I found one in the right color and with manual transmission. I didn't want leather, so that slowed down the search (many Touring models had optional leather). But I finally found the perfect 5-door in Knoxville, TN (200 miles away). The rest is history...

After driving it for 3.5 years now, I honestly don't think I can ever go back to a conventional sedan/coupe with a trunk (boot). The 5-door (hatchback, wagon or whatever you chooose to call it) is so useful and versatile! It's like having a small SUV when I need lots of cargo room and fold down the back seat. The cargo floor has a tray and divider built in to hold things in place. It's like the Swiss Army Knife of compact cars, IMO. (cool)

welcome to the forums!! you deffinatly speak the truth!! i love the versatility of my hatch though over the years my audio bug has slowly filled it

I'm with beelzebubba. I hate leather. I like most of the other "good stuff." Which makes the MZ3 5 door such a deal. Simply opting for the HB, even with NO options, gets you most of "everything" right out of the box. The 2.3L, the 17's, A/C, fog lights, etc, etc. For the same reason, I opted for a Protege5 back then.

Wow, we have twin cars, but I won't run into you as I am on the "left coast"...... I was so naive about the 3's that I didn't even know they came in sedans! I have three big dogs that I cart around in a Chrysler T&C, they will probably never even sit in my 3!! With big dogs, I just naturally think in terms of the most cubic sq ft possible and I was looking at all sorts of hatches. When I drove the Mazda 3.......it was over, couldn't pull the wallet out fast enough.
I just got mine this year, so I am always happy to hear that people keep them and love them. In our part of the country there are almost none available for sale.
