Mystery hangar... Can anyone identify?

I found the metal hanger lodged down beside the batter (between the battery and the fender) on my '88 RX7. I wasnt screwed into anything, just sort of sitting there. Can anyone identify it? What is it for?

Looks like a battery tie-down post to me

yeah there should be a bracket over the battery, and this tie down should feed through the hole on the top bracket and bolt into a nut to keep everything secure.
