My weekend project - Subs

Finally got a chance to take pics but here is last weekend's project. I installed a Bazooka Mono Amp under the passenger seat and cut and vinyled MDF board to mount my old 12 inch pioneer subs from my first car. I went with a free-air setup to try to keep trunk space. I am still using my stock head unit but I also installed a LOC for connection to the amp. Here are a few pics. The vinyl looks lighter in the pics but it's actually pretty close to the stock color in person.

Nice and clean. However, subs that are not designed for free-air tend to bottom out and bang like crazy when installed like that, especially if you give them too much power. Keep your ears perched for odd noises coming from the subs.

For the best results its also best to dynamat the rear deck to cover any holes. If a free-air setup is done right, no air should be able to pass between the trunk and the cabin. Most sedans with 60/40 folding seats are not designed for this...a Caddy, however, is designed for it because it has a steal plate that protects the trunk (and the stentch of dead bodies) from the cabin.

Thanks. They are actually free-air subs but I don't plan on giving them too much power. This is just mainly to fill in the gap since the stock system lacked bass. They actually kick better than I expected. I think I will start charging the back seat passengers for massages.

Two questions...

1: How is the wood being held up?
2: When you push the seats back, don't the subs hit the seat when they vibrate/hit?

OOooo... very nice. I'd love to try an infinite baffle install sometime. Make sure you get any air leaks between the front and back of the subs sealed up very well :D

It's being held up by three bolts at the top and the board is pretty much wedge in there so it doesn't move at all.

There is still some room between the seats and the subs so they don't hit at all.

I'd say it's about 98% completely sealed. There are some slits up top but not enough to cause any problems. I definitely don't push that much air to feel any come through though.
