My Turbo Project

yeah, well i'll be coming to you asking for the Miata if the car's not fixed.

looks like we'll take the tranny out on Friday night at Scott's; Korey will work on the tranny Saturday, and we'll reinstall it Saturday afternoon/night.

Cool. Have fun.

I'm dropping my trans right now also since the new clutch came in today.
I'm glad we're doing the same thing at the same time because I know I'll need some help putting things back together.

more parts when on this weekend. Korey put the flywheel and clutch on for me at his shop. Thank you!! The flywheel takes time to get used to. I'm still breaking in the clutch, but it feels good.

I'm still waiting on the Turbo and EMS to come in.

How long did the flywheel/clutch install take?

what were the biggest/smallest issues getting things out of the way for the install? etc?

I'm just about ready to drop the transmission itself, I believe that everything else is done but I'm going to double + triple check before I start cussing over ripping something out that I wasn't suppose to.

i think there was only 3 or 4 plugs. the hardes parts were taking the axle out of the passenger side, putting the driver side axle back in, and actually sliding the transmission back on the spindle. The whol process took about 5 hours. Korey could tell you better.

Good news: My turbo came in this weekend!!!!!

Bad news: They sent the wrong turbo. I wanted the GT2560 for the direct fit. The box was labeled 2560, the turbo inside is a GT2864R. This would be awesome if I wanted a bigger turbo, but was only settling for the smaller. But I wanted the smaller because I don't want to have to modify anything on the turbo.

Ken is getting me another one shipped.

added some things to the "needs to be sold" list. prices include shipping. I also have an aluminum and steel flange for the BOV.

Keep in mind I'm new to most of this, but I just read through all 13 pg of this and was wondering why you opted to build your own kit rather than buy an already made one (i.e. Hi-boost, bell engineering....)? You put all of this time and effort into this so far and spent $3178.20 + on the basic turbo parts when there are two hi-boost kits that cost around the same. I'm asking this because I would like to do this to my P5 also and was just wondering if it was worth the extra aggravation. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Good luck on the rest of the build. were you adding in the cost of an EMS?

the mazdaspeed turbo is a kit as well, direct bolt on with no modification. He spent a lot not just on the mazdaspeed set up but on all the supporting to mods to make sure he does this right. Just seems like so much because he did it all at once, not sure what you have done to your car, but if you have turboed it then you would spent comparable to do it right, maybe spread out though.

Yes I think I did. I also added the radiator and the smic. I wasn't exactly sure the "necessary" items, but that is quite the saving over the kits. Thanks for the response

i was able to pick up a radiator and AC condensor for $50 each. As far as EMS, I ended up spending $200 more than I planned because they discontinued the LT-8 right before I was able to order one.

i have some things that I'll be selling. I realized that I won't be needing the BOV or the MSP ECU. I also want to go with a different turbo timer. Let me know if you want pictures of anything.

I also have a steel and aluminum flange for the BOV.
