Ok so i am in panama city leaving wal mart with a group of friends and i begin to accelerate.....next thing i know there is a loud crack noise followed by the rpms shooting up and redlining. I was like wtf is a matter with this and i realize that at the next red light the car barely grips in first or second... I am thinking it is just a clutch so i am like ok, maybe about 500 bucks to get that replaced by a local with an aftermarket clutch. I tow it to mazda to see if it was my LSD because it sounded very similar to the recent cases posted by other members. Mazda said they would not break the tranny down until i paid 650 bucks to tear it down, then 390 for parts, and another 650 to rebuild it......how ****** up is that! I have the 100000 mile extended warranty too! Buzz Leonard Mazda ******* SUCKS! They could have at least taken into consideration that i do not even live there, they told me it would take a week to fix also. So anyway i just order the parts and take it to a local shop and it ends up not even being the clutch, i had about 10000 miles left on it before replacement, the locals tore down the tranny and found that it was in fact the LSD. Because they are certified i think mazda warranties the work minus the clutch labor, which was 450. so in total i spent about 800 bucks, that does not include the 200 extra bucks i had to spend while i was down there, as well as the 100 to go down there this next week to pick it up.

So lets see....i have another ******* factory clutch......800 dollars more poor, and i dont have a car until this next weekend when i can go and pick it up....damn.....

but i must admit, staying with my buddies for that week did kick ass, never partied that hard in my life....

omg i am in a world of hurt......i thought this s*** was covered under warranty!

Technically if you didn't sign off on the work to be done then you shouldn't be required to pay. Although if they quoted you then you agreed, and signed off on it then you're screwed. I was wondering how Mazda would let anyone other than a Mazda shop do warranty work.

good luck anyways.

As you posted long time ago in one of my threads. Welcome to the club of people who can't drive. Now you will believe me when I said this LSD is weaksauce. The broken LSD club continues to grow as the miles on the other MSPs go up b/c Mazda used a defective part.

by the way, as you may know now, the dealership the car was taken to totally screwed you over and, as you may not know, you let them.

I would have asked to borrow the phone at the Service desk and then called my attorney and had the Service Manager explain it to him.

Should have cost you nothing. Hell, you spent $800, you might as well have paid a little extra and put a Quaife in there.

you --> (upbum) <-- Mazda

Diddo on the Quaife.... tho that would require a wait and downtime and unfortunatly you were on vacation.

When I took my car in after the LSD broke they tore it down first thing the next morning, they didn't require any money at all...I ended up spending around $2800 in all but I have an upgraded clutch ,LSD, motor mounts, clutch line, and $1300 worth of labor and misc. parts that had to be replaced in the housing b.c the LSD took them out with it lol ...I told them when I called it was probably the LSD and they said LSD's dont go out lol, so when they took the tranny off and it wasn't the clutch and it was fine they believed me then. The look on their faces when they took the gear set out and saw the LSD was priceless lol ..

at least you didnt get herpies during spring break. That would have been a lot worse.

That's probably the first thing they considered. They saw an out-of-towner and tried to rip you off for all you're worth. The same thing happened to me about four years ago when I got a flat tire on my way to Niagra Falls. I ended up being out 600 bucks for a wheel, tire, and new brakes....which I may or may not have needed. I just don't know. They also saw that I was young and naive.(sp?)

Sooooooooooooo..... how many more LSD's have to break before Mazda issues a recall?
