My Puppy was diagnosed with Parvo

We got a puppy not 5 days ago, and it was like a light switch one day he started moving slowly. Then got really bad poops, then finally stopped eating. I took him to the vet today, and had a parvo test done it came back positive. I had an estimate written up for the care of him to help him get through it. When she slid the paper across the table i looked down at him and he looked up with that look of "Daddy, I can do this" I didnt even have to look at the total at that point. So Guys pray for my little pup hes gotta a fight to put up the next 3-4 days. It makes me cry to even write this.

Ive prayed more today than I have in my life. I dont know what it is about dogs but it kills me to think that a little pup is having to fight one of the biggest battles of his life at such an early age.

You bought a pup from where? Local? If not they are liable aren't they Blake?

We adopted. The lady is refunding me the money for what I paid in adoption fees, and agreed to pay to have him put down. But does not have funds to pay the total bill for the treatment. I started to ball while I was in the office, and couldnt bring myself to tell em to put him down.

How could you not pay to have this face around?

I spent over 8k on my doggie when he got cancer last year...he is still here and I am so glad I made the decision to do the surgury and chemo.

I'm very sorry to hear that, I've seen many dogs go with parvo.. But at the same time I've seen alot pull through. My mom is a vetinary technician. Just make sure you clean anywhere in the house that het may have vomited or had diarrhea with bleach. And if there's anywhere in the yard don't let him or any other dog near the area.

wow, so sorry Blake...I would do the same as you im sure. Good luck and I hope he pulls threw...

Blake - most vets will work on payment plans with you - they want to see the little guy make it too.

I'll keep him in my prayers, let him have the strength and fortitude to combat this disease so that he may live a long and much loved life with you.

Only reason I asked how much is because I might be able to put together a few bucks to help out. Just let me know...I have two pups myself and I would be crushed if anything happened to them.

JA is right....when we got our first Basenji, Kenji from a breeder we found out the next day that he was really sick...the breeder shook of the coughing as "nerves" but we knew we had to take him because otherwise i think he would have just died. We found out that he had kennel cough that had gone untreated and turned into full blown pneamonia and there was a chance he wouldnt make it.... The vet knew we didnt have a lot of money and cut cost for us where he could by giving us free meds, xrays, etc....

And GOOD vet will want what is best for the dog first, and worry about money later...

I feel your pain. We spent nearly $4k on my cat back in '02.

best wished to the little guy.

I don't know man... 5 days? I might just pick up another dog, your looking at a long long long future of pet bills and as you know its not cheap. I know you want to save the little guy but there are thousands of pups that need adopting and even more that get put down because they don't have good homes. Goodluck with whatever you decide.
