***NEW PICS 2/24*** My Protege Pics and Questions

Hi Everyone...new guy here

been reading these forums for about a month lately, and got a lot of good information out of it... Now it is time to start posting and modifying my protege.

First of a couple pictures (Sorry they kind of suck, but I just cleaned it and thought might as well take some pics for you guys (thumb) )

It wasn't a very nice day to take pictures. Plus I need to go somewhere (sun)

Backend. Exhaust too low, bumper too high

Ok, so as you can see, my protege is pretty much stock, except for intake, exhaust, and taillights. My question regards the back end of car. Right now the exhaust is a little lower than I wanted (about 1" away from the bumper). I have already posted on the forums for a rear skirt in silver, but I most likely won't find one. Soooo, I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for my bumper. One that does not involve a total body kit and paint, although I would seriously get that if I had money. But, I want to do something to the back because the bumper is too high from the ground, and the exhaust is to low. I'm looking to spend around 100-200 hopefully. If Mazdastuff.com sold the rear skirt painted, I would have already got that.

Another question, relating to this dilema. Will a P5 bumper fit on an 02 ES protege? And is it lower than the es? I know it looks different, but not sure if it will fit.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any comments on the car and future mods I should do are welcomed as well.

P5 rear bumper will not fit. Personally, I wouldn't do anything to just the rear bumper. If you don't have side skirts it will look pretty dumb.

Welcome to the forum! :D

Good start on the car.I think the stock tail lights look better though. I read the forums for over a year before I registered and became a member. For the exhaust, I suggest you go to a local shop and have a few extra hangers put on and or relocate the ones on the muffler now. I had a muffler sit that low before and I just had them weld on a new hanger to pull it up. Just make sure your watching them closley and make sure its centered perfect. Should cost only $10-20 bucks.

I dont think the p5 bumber bolts right on. And if you think the rearend it sitting to high. Just get some lowering springs. Eibach, goldline,Tien, and some others. Just search. If you have the money, I'd drop it and go with some aftermarket 16's.

And is it just me or whenever you wash your car on a perfect day, when your done theres clouds formed above. I cant take it, my cars stays clean for about 3 hrs.

haha...idk, I like the Altezzas for some reason.... I still have the stock tailights, so I can put them on just for you anarchistchiken =). I guess that is what you guys call ricey??? Wait until you see my pedals...hahahaha

foolish - yea, that's my problem. If I get a rear bumper skirt. I would have to complete it with side skirts AND an MSP or P5 front conversion, which I don't have money for. Other wise it would look weird. Anyone know of a good deal???

I like your suggestion JOMO, but if I raise it up, then it will rule out a skirt or possibly a bumper conversion kit. And I am waiting to get wheels to lower the car. My uncle has an 18" that came off a scion tc. Do you guys think that will fit? with low profile tires.

I still would like to get a rear skirt with side skirts at least. I'll keep checking the FS thread. But thanks for your suggestions! If you know of any deals, let me know!

And my car is now dirty... oh well. I tried...

Oh sorry didn't read that little paragraph at the bottom there. There are a couple aftermarket bumpers available for the protege, but if you're not looking to spend a huge sum of money, jsut keep searching for that lip. You can hit up Ken at Protegegarage (see sig) and ask him if he can get one for ya.

I have the same car..down to the color! I would just raise up the exhaust. I (when I first got my car in 01) also wanted some altezza tails, but I am glad I didn't get them. If you like them then thats what its all about, but I have come to like a "cleaner" appearance. I attached a pic of my car. Since I have bought it, i have added an intake, rims, ww wing, catback exhaust, and i have a p5 bumper with the 03.5 lip waiting to get painted. I used to have underbody neons, along with other lights but got over that phase. I hope you enjoy your new addiction!

Post pics when you get the bumper and lip installed! How much are you spending on that?

I got the p5 bumper for free someone wrecked thiers and we fixed it. The lip was a christmas present from my roomate. All I gotta do is paint it.

BTW, does this site have a Wanted forum, or do I just post in the FS?

Theres a link to the "WTB" forum at the top of the For Sale page.

i have another question

did they make 2003.5 msp's in silver? I'm looking for that wing as well, hopefully I can just do a trunk swap, but I am not sure if MSPers like my wing. Worth a try anyways...

If I do end up having to paint anything, how much would that cost? (ie side skirts, rear valence, msp wing, and msp front bumper.

Welcome. Mazda also makes a front air dam for the sedans, so you don't really need a full kit, unless you really want one.
