well, I was leaving a local coffee shop after work and as I was pulling out of the parking lot another car was pulling in, so I put the clutch in to roll back a bit to give the guy a better angle to get in, and then I here "CRACK"!! How in the hell did I not see that minivan behind me?! It was about a 2km/h collision so the damage wasn't huge, just a nice couple scratches and a broken tailight. F$CK. So I am curious who has used touch up paint before, and how good this is gonna end up looking? I am very pissed at myself, and hope that it will not be noticible once fixed

damn dude, sorry to hear that

sorry, but i havent used my touchup paint yet..............

You can take it to a body shop and have them wet sand it and spray it down ... they don't have to do the whole bumper, or might not have to ... ask them and see..
I think it will be very noticeable with touch up paint ...especially to you.
Bruce

would a dealership be able to do it, or is my best bet a bodyshop? Looks like this mistake is gonna cost me some coin.

wet sanding it and spraying it down sux !
Bruce, sorry dude, dont mean anything against you, it wont work with mica paint.

gotta do the whole thing, or it WILL look like crap.

had the same thing happen to my Electron Blue Civic Si which also had mica in the paint, and let me tell you, since we have metal flakes in the paint the color matching doesnt work well.
You'll have a dark circle where they tried to color-match cause the new metal flakes will be on top of the old ones.....
Avoid it if u can.

body shop wont do it as well as a dealership would
plus it will come out to be almost the same price cause the bodyshop would have to special order the paint from the dealership, and that would cost them a grip.

Doesn't it depend on which body shop you go to . from working on my front bumper I noticed the difference between Quality(painful). Some shops do better work than others. also the dealer will also send the Car out to a local bodyshop to do the work ... Which is what they did to my car and my dad's 99 Accord.
bottom line .. Hopefully you can get it all fixed for not to hectic of a price.. but anyway you put it .. It will cost you a few bucks
Bruce

yeah.. take it to the body shop and have them respray it. Touch up paint looks like sheit!

i just thought about it........
anither plus of repainting your whole bumber is:

our paint is very thin, so if u redo the whole bumper, for another 30 or 40 bucks u can as for a couple of more layers of paint and a couple of more layers of clearcoat.
It will be harder to scratch the car later on than with stock paint.

just a thought

dealers usually have their own body shops with much better facilities than regular ones. at least that's how it works here in Cali.

Trying to make the pic out- is the black where paint is scraped down to the bumper or is it scuff on your paint? If it is scuffs- 90% of it will clean up with the right compound/polish.
Joe

That's the bumper...It's just bad stock paint.
Look at it this way, you can take it to any qualified body shop that can repaint the entire rear bumper and make it look like the rest of the car, OR take it to a VERY, VERY qualified shop, that can blend it. If you don't think it's possible for a body shop to blend Spicy orange, take a look at my car. I had the front end repainted and they blended into my passenger side door. It's impossible to tell where it blends. Either way, you'll end up paying about the same. Good Luck.

yeah it's scraped right down to the bumper, there's no buffin those things out. Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going to try to get to the dealership tommorow for an estimate. Hopefully they got a tail light in stock, I really don't wanna drive it looking like that for too long.

it's gonna cost ya some dough to get it done right. call your
insurance co and ask them what dealership or bodyshop they
recommend/deal with. to clarify, i am not telling you to put in a
claim, just ask them if they have a recommended shop in your
area.

also do what Joe recommended and get some polishing compound
to try to remove some of the black if it is a scuf mark.

good luck spool

Man, that sucks. I couldn't tell for sure from the pic. I was getting my hope up for ya :).

yo wtf was u thinking man i always double check everything.. ! oh well s*** happens.. least ur first mistake is over with.. hopefully no more.

the paint ground off is one thing, but was the bumper actually ground into also, so that it too would need repair? anyway, i suggest a very very very good body shop that really knows what to do. remember, you get what you pay for.

Hey sorry to hear that bro, if it makes you feel any better, I got a dent on my fender today. *sigh* the bottomless $$$ pit that is the MSP...

Ok this will make you feel better, always know it could be worse. This was my car after it was broken into.
