My P5 Engine Shuts Off

I bought mine brand new 2003.5 P5 last October. I've been very happy about this car. It is FUN to drive, considering I had a GEO Metro before. :-)
But, I had this wired problem. It happened to me twice. When I stopped at the red light, the engine just shut it self off without any warning sign. I had to move shift to "P" and restart the car. After the first time, I thought maybe it's just abnormal and didn't really pay attention to it. But last night after I got off work, it happend again at the traffice light just couple miles from my work. Now I start to worry. Why did it happen, will it happen again and what could be wrong?
I have a automatic trans P5
It has 5000 miles on it and I did my first oil change at 3000 miles.
I always use Shell 87 gas
I always warm up my car for 2 or 3 minutes before driving cause it's cold in Chicago.
The first time it happened after I left home about two or three miles in the morning. It's a cold morning. But yesterday it's not cold, maybe around 45 degrees.
Is it engine problem or ECU problem? Now I'm scared everytime I stop at the traffic light because I am worried the engin will shut off. Fun-drive became worried-drive.
Please, any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
I guess if I go to dealership, they would say "sorry, we couldn't find anything wrong with your car because we couldn't duplicate the problem".

i had a similar problem in my last car (a saturn, stop laughing) and it turned out to be some mapping sensor or something. it was like $120 to fix

i would just take it to the dealership, sounds like a warranty repair. its a brand new car, it shouldn't be doing stuff like that

btw, you should check out the illinois section. lots of cool people and we are having a meet in a few weeks.

That's great, I will check it out.
Thanks

the rev is going down too much probably thats why
Actually, the engine was idle for a while around 700 or 800 rpm then it shuts off when I was waiting for the green light. It's not like I suddenly hit the break and it shuts off.
Anyway, a branding new card doing that really makes me upset.

my old protege did that
it was the ignition coil
My civic did it too
but on the protege it was a $150 fix and on honda it was $400
another reason why i am buying a protege again or you could diy

I had the exact same problem took it to the dealer and they called mazda and were told to replace the EGR valve been fine ever since. Their explanation to me was that the valve was getting stuck open which caused the engine to stall and shut off.

The egr sounds like a reasonable explanation, just take it to the stealership since its under waranty.

Had this problem since I first got the car.. do a search under my name, and you will see a lot of helpful info.

I've read about a lot of people having this problem. Most of them are around the same mileage as you. It happened to me twice so far. I haven't done anything about it yet though.

I had it happen to me once. A few days after installing my intake & exhaust. I reset my ECU and everything has been fine since.

This happened to me Thursday. I have 850 miles on my car now, but on Thursday I had roughly 4-500. (Took a trip yesterday) I was sitting at a stop sign, about 3-4 min after starting, I had my window down, lights on, air turned on 1, and the radio was on but turned down and it shut off. I turned everything off but the lights and it started right up like normal. I've been told that I might have overloaded the battery, but I'm not sure now that I read this. What do you guys think? I have to take it in to the dealership and get my Free Detail and Tank of gas from when I first got it so I think I might ask them and see if they have had this happen before.

that happened to me too, i brough it to the dealer and it turned out the trottle cable was to loose, they took a wrench and tightened it, took a total of about 15 seconds and my cars perfect now.

Doubt if it was the battery, you wouldn't of been able to start the car if it was drained. The alternator actually powers the car and keeps the battery charged. You might have had too much running for the car to keep up with but I highly doubt that. You would have to be running a bunch of stuff. Just take it to the dealership and get it checked out.

Update,

I finally got time to go to the dealer to check out my P5. They said the main relay and fuel pump relay need to be changed. They didn't have the parts. I have to go there this Sat to get them replaced. They couldn't find anything else. Hopefully this can fix the problem.
