Hey all. Just wanted to FINALLY post a first message on these forums, after months of lurking in the shadow's, drooling over all your hot p5's.
Ive loved the looks of this car since i first saw them roll out in 02 and just had to have one.
This is my first car (very expensive i first car) and i hope it will last for a realy long time. of course, if i break it, thats different ;)

2002, Purewhite, Power everything and 4AT. I really wish i could have held out for a 5spd. in fact the car i was originally going to buy was a 03 laser blue with it, but the dealership i baught it from sold it before i could apply for financing.

I like the white better anyway. Only thing is, now im faced with the dilema of modding this car and eventually changing it to manual when the tranny dies; or sell it, lose like $5k immediatly and buy a 5spd.
im not really a car guy but ive worked on them a fair bit with my dad, so work doesnt scare me.

Maybe ill go talk to bigwoofer. he lives like.. a block from me. =)

in any event, hope i can learn a few things while im here.

Hey, Welcome to the forums.

Congrats on the white pro5, partial to them myself. This was my first new car when I bought it too, oddly enough...this is the car that turned me into one of those 'car guys'.

Sad thing is, I used to drive a 66mustang (also white), totally took it for granted, had a finicky engine problem, ended up parking it...and eventually my folks sold it! (omg)

This car sure has turned me on to mazda though. . ., previously if you asked me to name a car company...i'd be hard pressed to name mazda. Only 'issue' i've had with my pro5 is burning out headlights, and burning through the stock dunlop tires quickly.

Take care mate, welcome to the addiction....

Waz up man!, Welcome! I'm fresh off the boat myself, and admit i also lurked long time. I love the car looks to be in great condition, and a nice canvas to start with. I say don't regret what you could've had, run what you brung!

Even without alot of money or experiance there are a ton of great mods you can do...and before you know we'll all be drooling over your car! Have fun and enjoy your stay!:)

Ugh! the stock dunlops SUCK! I used to feel the sidewalls fold around every turn. I went to get new ones and the Direzza's were way cheaper, stickier and stiffer, I love em'...(first)

Welcome to the addiction! Got a white pro5 myself also in auto, but, it's an 03 so it's got the sucktronic shifter. It's a great little car! You can't go too crazy modding the auto power wise. At least not without A LOT of money! Well, I guess that goes for the stick too.

Eitherway, great first car! You'll have lots of fun driving it! Lots of Do-It-Yourself stuff too you can do for cheap! Blackout the headlights, paint the rear valance, paint the calipers, etc..

See ya around the boards!

First thing ill probably do is get some of the sedan headlights to clean up the front end. Imnot likeing the chrome lighting too much, something i like a lot more in the 03.
I also plan to get myself; mazdaspeed bumpers and skirts, CF Ram air hood *or just find a wrecked protege with a hood i can mod myself* and CF eyelids, that cf interior panel kit, maybe some new wheels *was looking into a set of White Enki RS6 in 17" and a bunch of performence mods to convert it to mazda speed, but thats cash and im not made of it heh.

one thing i wanna look for is some new interior panels sooner or later. There is a nice big scratch in my dash that i didnt notice when i baught it *damn showroom lighting* mostly on the glovebox door but still annoying.

thanks for all the welcomes =) Looking forward to the learning curve and pwning my car heh. she was a god find, only 67k.

You don't wanna do sedan headlights. You're better off throwing some HID's in the Pro5 headlights. As to the chrome lights, the only way you're gonna get some some black ones is off a Canadian Protege5. Or pay over $600 for them on Ebay.

Or, you could spend a total of about $8 and buy a can of BBQ grill black paint, bake the headlights and paint em yourself. There's lots of good stuff in the How-To section that costs little money!

.

Definitely do the black out yourself...the P5 headlights are better than the MSP lights...Here is the link to the HOw To...And as far as the "Ram Air" hood, just make sure it's ramming air in the right place...Welcome(cool)

good link for the headlights for sure. ill be sure to read up on that and give it a shot =) Its a bc plate and it IS on the island. Victoria =). I should hook up with some of you vancouver people sometime and see your mazda's.i head over there from time to time with the lady to visit my sisters and shop for some stuffs/NCIX.

the auto isnt too bad.2nd gear rips, but ill definatly wanna either get a manual or convert mine when it breaks heh.

Congrats. I love the whit p5s also. If your looking for cheap mods, I recommend painting the stock wheels and throwing some Catz fogs in there. Heres mine, gets a lot of compliments.

Hello all

I too am a new owner of a P5. I got a great deal on it and drove it home from chicago last weekend. I am loving it and looking forward to modding it even more. I will get more pics up when the weather is nicer, but for now my signature is my new car...

thanks for that lovely picture of your whitey. I wasnt sure how much white was too much, since i really liked the rs6 wheels in white. so good to know.
was a little disappointed to find the pics in that guide not working. anyone save em somewhere?

ordered a roof deflector and replacment caps for my wipers and roofrack lugs. now i just need to decide on a nice set of ground skirts for the side and a rear bumper. gonna get the mazdaspeed frontlip, and paint it to match myself. since ill be doing up the headlights ill do it all in that one weekend =)>

one question though. how hard is it to lower a car yourself? Like, how much are spring compressors or is it better to find a shop to do it for me?. and when i convert the tranny to manual. should i just take all the parts to a shop and get them to do it? or give it a shot myself? was looking in the classies for some cheap stuff and thought i might start collecting the misc brackets and junk to do the conversion.

Ack..If you wanted a manual you should have bought one in the first place honestly....Buy a bad ass turbo and forge the internals and what not, The swap isnt going to pretty on your bank account

yea,but the point of the matter is, this car is financed for another year or something, its in amazing shape and only has 70k on the internals. if i turn around and sell it now, i still have to pay out the loan, and the prices just took a real nose dive cause of our strong dollar. so i pretty much lose $6k to sell it, pay off my loan and look for another one.

so its almost better to hold onto it,keep it in good shape and swap it to manual when the tranny dies, since the mazda waranty is long up. I have a dealer waranty with it for 90k or 3 years. but if i dont use the waranty in that time, they refund the full amount of it to me. in this case, $2000.

short of machining the flywheel, im sure i can do the work myself and i do know a lot of car people who would be happy to help. but the question i raised before was if its more time/cost effective to pay a transmission shop to just install all the parts if gather instead of me having my car in peices for a week + trying to get the thing in there right.

ah well. ill haev to look into the financing rules with the bank and see if its ok for me to sell it to get another one. or if i can find someone with a white manual who wants an auto,i cando up a trade.
