My New 71 Datsun 510

yeah I got the whole strut incl. the hat assembly, brake lines, calipers, rotors, spindles. Pretty much everything but the springs. Pick N Pull is having a half off sale this weekend down here, so I gotta figure out what else I need. Will the brake booster / master cylinder work from a 79 280?

Yes it will. 79-81 have a 15/16 master cylinder with a seperate holder for front and rear fluid. 82-83 are the same size cylinder, but have one big holder for all the fluid. 79-81 rear calipers have a different mounting holes then 82-83 rear calipers. If you plan to go to bigger rear brakes grab the master cylinder.

so are you saying the 79 280 master cylinder/ brake booster will bolt in???

It should bolt in no problems. Plenty of guys use the ZX master cylinder with the ZX brakes. I've got an 81 m/c sitting at home, but have never tested fitted it.

right on. I will try to get the m/c and booster and bias valve saturday... ^_^

got the parts. Bought a M/C w/booster thinking it would fit, but only the M/C fits. there is no way that huge booster would ever fit. Oh well.
Any ideas on other boosters out there for power brakes? I heard 200SX works a while ago, but didnt bother checking the 1987 200sx that was at the yard.

Oh and bump for post #2 with pics

How do these Tein Camber plates look?

Does that look like it includes a rear set too!??

you have the tein ones, and you use them, or you want to sell them? Do you have to cut the mounting perch to use them?

I've tested fitted them, but have never used them. :( sadly. No you don't have to cut the mounthing perch with them. They are going to go on my two door here soon. Once I get everything for the 280 hub (need the hub cap and cotter pin still)

Pick N Pull. They have everything datsun here. except 510's or anything older than 1971

update.
Coming down a small mountain today was motivated to get my brake swap done faster. Near the bottom of the hill, I noticed the ENORMOUS amount of brake fade. At the bottom of the hill while making a right hand turn I noticed the smoke billowing off the drivers side brake. Great.
I need to get the parts to finish my 280ZX strut/brake swap QUICK.

My eBay experience for today..... LAME

Wow, trying to look for camber plates for my strut swap and this clown in TX treats me like this: (everything copied and pasted from emails.)

I first contact him through the ebay messaging system asking:

"Hi very interested in these for my 71 Datsun 510. Would you be able to take some close up pictures of the bolt threads? Thanks!"

His reply:

"Please READ the auction. Notice that I require a Direct e-mail for Any Questions."

(a scammer tactic to avoid ebay radar and evidence.)
So, I send him an email:

Subject: RE:Re: Question for item #190131002810 - Cusco 240SX Adj. Camber Plates S13 S14 Silvia Drift

"OK here is your direct email.

Can you take pictures of the three fender mounting bolts?

And is there any play in the spherical bearings?

Thanks."

To which I get this reply:

"No............
Because they fit !
The only thing that varies on the 510 is the thread size on the end of your strut.
Some 510s had a 12mm thread, some had a 14mm thread.
You tell me which thread size you need, and I will include a pair of the correct nuts."

I then reply:

"I am not worried about the size. I am concerned with the condition of the threads.
Since you are being so guarded about the auction I doubt I would be interested anyway. Thanks."

His totally gratuitous reply:

"Do you see anything in my feedback that says I sell crap ??

You are blocked, don't bother looking at my auctions again.

Your just another fuc-ing 510 nut case........."

I reply.

"Just another poor seller."

His latest response just came in while typing this:

"No, just a smart one......
I don't sell to nut-cases.
If you were so concerned with having perfect camber plates,
you could have bought the new set I have listed.
But like a typical 510 wanabe, you will only spend $5 on a $50 part.

Thank you for showing me what a looser you are before bidding on any of my items."

END

So in summary, it seems pretty clear that this guy is selling crap, or just scamming people. But his feedback looks ok.
I would recommend to all here, not buying from this guy

And of course I am looking for a deal on parts, who isnt?

And if I even did want to buy from him, I would just use my wife's ebay account.

EDIT:
I contacted the buyer of the item after the auction ended and he recieved them w/o any hardware, and the threads were quite mangled.

I wouldnt of even wasted time emailing him. They an ass in the first emails! well then **** em!!! Id rather pay more on customer service than save a few bucks with an ass.

When you rebuild those ZX brakes/front end get a catalog from this place. They have everything for the damn Zs. I wish they had one for the dimes also. Just ordered my hub covers from them so I can get my coil overs on. Once I get back I'm going to order new caliper pistons and rebuild kits for the front brakes.
