My muffler choice too cheap?

Magnaflow will be my 2nd choice, but it just seems so "typical".

It may be typical, but it works. Who cares what brand as long as the s*** holds together and does its job. lol

Just grab a good quality muffler, a resonator or two and do the rest up with custom pipe. That's the beauty of it, the most expensive part is the muffler. What's exhaust pipe cost? Like $4 per foot giver or take? You can buy enough pipe and 2 flanges to make a catless midpipe for less than $25. Add a flex and its a bit more, but still.. It's cheap as hell to do. So don't pass off on relatively inexpensive, but good parts.

1 yr down the road my daughter has 2 hearing aids and Child Protection Services has a bone to pick with me.

i use a flowmaster but unfortunatly do not have a sound clip. my muffler recently broke at the weld from the inlet pipe to the muffler itself (michigan corrosion) but it has a nice deep tone to it. not the typical canister sound. my exhaust is now all striaght pipe which i will try and get a sound clip of but it is VERY loud. debating on keeping it that way as my wife has the family car and i get the fun car.

A 3" exhaust is going to be loud no matter what you do. I have a custom 3" with high flow cat, resonator and muffler. This damn thing is still way loud. All are Magnaflow components.......which are awesome by the way.

Everyone that's said not to 'cheap out' was absolutely correct. The first time I had my exhaust done, I went the cheap route -- and it was a MESS.

The second time I had my exhaust done, I had it custom built to my specifications by a really nice shop. I paid the price -- but damn, was it worth it!

I had a 2.5" Corksport s-pipe, and the rest of the system was 3". All stainless steel and tig-welded. I threw in a 3" Magnaflow cat (because I couldn't pass emissions completely catless), a flex pipe and two resonators. Ended it with an HKS muffler.

I absolutely adored that exhaust. It had a nice rumble while cruising at normal speeds, and rose to a good ol' snarl when I really started tromping on the gas. I had no resonators on the first setup, and two on the second setup -- and those resonators made a WORLD of difference. If noise is truly a concern for you (and it was for me since I wasn't looking to be massively obnoxious with my exhaust system), do what I did and get two.

HKS canister would be my choice if I was doing it over. I love my Greddy growl but something about an HKS behind the right engine always sounds badass!

just buy the new corksport 80mm exhaust and be done with it...

i have a full custom exhaust with a corksport canister on the end and a summit resonator and it sounds nice...no cats also

id rather have custom exhaust, but how much is the corksport? I went to summit racing and asked one of the people about 2 resonators and a borla\magnaflow muffler. He said a resonator would defeat the purpose of having the borla and would restrict the flow. That true?

The resonators only quiet the exhaust a little bit? I wouldn't know how restrictive they actually are. Definitely not as bad as cats. Probably adds a little bit of backpressure if at all.

The resonators deaden (some of) the sound created by the exhaust. They'd only have a notable effect on the flow if you got a size different than the rest of the exhaust system -- as in, what you were saying before, getting 2.5" resonators when the rest of the system is 3". Bottlenecking.

The resonators don't exactly counteract the muffler. How do I put this .. Okay. The muffler sets the 'note' of the exhaust (to a degree), and the resonators help adjust the volume of that 'note'. I hope that makes sense.

im running a 2.5 j/midpipe to a 3" catback with no resonator or cats and a hi flow muffler......i love it. id get sound clips but i dont have the greatest exhaust gaskets right now..
