I was asked to post this of my friend's new car to see what people thought of it. Being a Mazda board I tried to warn her, so everybody try and be nice... It is a 2002 Civic EX auto with all the options she could think of (spoiler, cd, roof, ect). Anyways, She's had it for a month or so and it's already *cough*Had it's ass whipped by my P5 */cough*. ;) It's pretty quick and a nice car, but just lacks the handling and overall responsiveness of the Protege platform. A good car no doubt, but just not as fun. We raced from a stop light out on a country highway a few times, nothing past the speed limit or anything, just a comparison... From 0-65 the P5 would pull about 1.5 to 2 Carlengths pretty quickly, then the civic would start to maintain it's position (ie. I'd stop gaining) at about 50MPH or so. Anyways, Her second try I showed her how to brake torque, but it didn't help much... Anyways, The car is totally stock, exactly the way it came from the dealership, with no plans to ever change that. Opinions are welcome...

it's a flipping civic....

whoopiddy-doo...

my roommate has one too, he drives it like an old man though, never saw him rev beyond 4500. Maybe the car bored him to drive that way??

Very reliable transportation, all around good car. Can't go wrong with honda for reliability. My 93 Accord never had any major problems and gave many miles trouble free. Not quite the looker or racer that most of us on this board would prefer but quite nice none the less. :D

We were down to a Civic EX sedan or the Protege5. Even though the engine on the Civic was much better, the overall handling, design (interior and exterior), ride and balance was better on the Protege5.

I think we made the right decision! :)

I agree with you totally Gene... I was considering a new civic as well, until I test drove the P5. The suspension in the P5 is what totally won me over in the P5. Good stuff. :)

Honda is a very great quality of car....they pissed me off when they made the hybrid though...that car looks like a piece of doodoo...all in all I like Hondas, I just don't like riced out hondas:D

HOLY F@#KIN SH*T. Thats the mostest beautifulest car I have ever seen! No Doubt!!!

SOHC Civics are great commuter cars, nothing more. Comfortable, get good gas mileage, what more could you ask for to get from point A to point B? I could not see myself paying that much for nothing, the new civics lack everything but quality, good gas mileage. I am sure she enjoys it, have you let her drive your car yet? Show her the path? :D

Nah, I haven't let anyone drive my car yet. ;)
She doesn't really drive a manual all that well, so I didn't want to chance anything. All she says is that my dash is "prettier" and that the car rides bumpy...

My friend has the same car........it has 20000km on it....and guess what...he hears this weird noise in his engine lately...and he brought it in to he Honda Dealer....and they are gonna order a new transmission for him from Japan.......haha......its gonna take a month.........
O yeah....the mechanic said he has no idea where the noise is coming from....but hopes a new transmission can cure it.....

Im going to get beat for this............

Our other car is a 2001 Acura 1.7EL (not available in the US, basically a civic with a fancy interior & options etc)

As far as engine & tranny go, it whoops the P5's ass, as far as Im concerned Honda makes the smoothest reving engines and sweetest shifting trannies on the planet hands down. Drives like a 72 Ford Galaxy in the corners compared to our P5's but its impressive in the straight's. It almost feels faster than our cars because how freely the engine revs and how smooth the transition throught the gears are.

Does anyone have specs (1/4mile etc for P5 vs Civic SI ?)

Please dont kill me............I still take my P5 to work everyday and let her drive the Grannymobile.
