My first RX-7!!!

i own an 87, just to let you know, the 3 rotor is going to come to a grand total of 10,000 i was researching about a month ago. if you are rebuilding the 12a in it i would just turbo that instead of getting a 13bt. probly less involved and more hp in the end.

Yah, we have ruled out the 3 rotor because of cost. We'd like to get a 3rd gen in the next few years too, so it doesn't make too much sense to blow a lot of cash just to have a 3 rotor in the fb. :D

I do have pix of the build thus so far:

Update: April 2

Well, the engine still sits as is on the shop table. We are waiting for income tax return money to be able to go buy the Mazda specialty rotary tool we need to take the flywheel off .

One thing I am posting about: we turned the engine over a few times and ******* WATER was coming out of the exhaust ports. I fear the worst may be true--this engine is TOAST.

So, we are exploring options for a drop in alternative to get her running again. A friend who lives in Cali has a 4 port cosmo engine that he will sell us if it is a good one. That combined with a Holley~650 and a street port may make us happy. So we'll see what happens when we get to take it apart in about a week or so.

I wish i would have know i just sold my 13b ported 4 port out of my old 1st gen for cheap and it ran great, if you check out mazdatrix's website they show what you need to do for the 13b swap, i can get you the turbo motors fo $950.00 if you need one- chris @ spd racing

ooh ooh tear apart that motor and give me one of the rotors!

they make great mantle piece when dead lol

DAMN! i always miss the good thingies!! Oh well.

About the turbo motors, they are salvaged? is it possible to know the condition/milage on them? We'd have to come get it in the Protege5 (luv my wagon).

How will the fb 5spd receive the power? I'd hate to blow a tranny.

The car already has the GSL LS rear. We still need a performance clutch and possibly a slave and or clutch master cylinder. There is NO clutch pedal pressure.

lol...I'm sure the shipping would be expensive on that little sucker--they weigh a TON. I already have one spare decorative rotor on my workshop table. :p

good luck with the flywhell nut 52mm it is a big one
Yah, we're gonna have to see if we can find a powerful enough air gun to use with the air compressor. But first we have to order the specialty tool for the flywheel. bleh...

all my motors are in great shape 100+ psi in both rotors very strong, you would want to hook it up to a turbo II tranny ($200) and a custom driveshaft to your gsl-se rear end we have a few guys running that set up and hitting low 12's easy with it, to bad you are'nt out here we have the tools to take it off for you- chris

Okay. I am going to check out your website. We know we will have to get another engine.

Did you read what I said a few posts up about the water coming out of the exhaust ports? What do you think about that?

Anyhoo, we are discussing it and a nice trip to Cali would be kool. We'll have funds to buy an engine in a week or two. Until then, tell me as much as you can about the swap as you can, if you please (degree of difficulty, if we can do it in our garage, ect.).
:)

Oh, and is the $950 for a complete engine or would we have to get things like intake, carb ect?

yea our website is'nt done yet, water out of exhaust ports usally means that the Coolant seals are bad, the motors are complete (turbos', intercooler etc) but they are FI so you would need the stock ecu and harness for it to work, your best bet would to find a 4 port carb 13b or a carb 6 port , give me a call tomm and i can go over some other detials with you- chris 760-787-5759

uuewhhh...the front looks like a boat (headshake but its a clean car! :D
