So I started today having the intention to change my oil. After warming the car up i checked it, and after 3500 miles it still looks almost new. At this rate, i might not change it till around 5000 miles. I'm running Mobil1 Clean 5000 and the 626 Purolator PureONE upsized oil filter.

Just thought some of you would like to know.

You technically don't have to change synthetic all too often, esp on a lower powered car.

I'm not sure of the part number because it has been so long since i changed it. What i did was look in the little reference book in the store for the 626 oil filter.

I'm pretty sure it's Part Number PL14610. that's what i used. it's slightly longer than the stock protege filter.

I change my oil every 5000 miles. no need to change it any less than that.

Rule of thumb :
case 1- Street drive : 3K miles interval oil change
case 2- Street/Highway (mix drive) : 3~4k miles interval oil change
case 3- Highway: 5K miles interval oil change

You do as you see it fits best, you know.

As MSP go , fully synthetic is recomended. There's more than just black and white to explain the reason why.
Second don't cheap out on neither oil quality or oil filter.

i change mine every 2000-3000 miles. i use royal purple 10w40 and mazda oil filters..

I'm not an expert but from what "the expert" told me, when using fully synthetic oil you need to burn the oil properly if the synth oil doesn't get used enough to break its agents than they'll pile up on the internal parts and will in some ways mess up internals in LONG RUN.

early 90 up to late 90 ppl were concerned to change the oil on FI car's as often as possible, now w/ newer tech you don't need to change the oil as offten (<3k) unless the car has madd miles or you race every second you drive/drive it like its stolen.

Don't be surprize to see oil change intervals "recomended by manufactures" to be from 10K~20K mil range. Most of the new car models are ~5.5-10K mil interval as of 2007/2008.
