Anyone ever have a rock chip in a windshield fixed? I was greeted by a rock from a dumptruck on the way home today that pierced the first layer of my mazdaspeed low coefficient drag race windshield. The chip is on the passenger side and is a decent size. I want to stop it before it runs. I also want to hunt down and slit the throat of the viscious bastard who allowed this rock to devirginize my windshield. Or at the very least, yell a bad word at him from a safe distance.

I dont remember if you have the GT or not (pray you dont) but with the GT the rain sensor for the wipers adds a pretty premium to a new windshield.


you should be able to stop by union auto glass or a similiar place for a quote and a patch kit. its basically a big clear adhesive spot that will try as best as possible to stop the spreading/leaking of the crack until the shield can be replaced.

luckily for you its not winter or the fluctuating temps would cause it to spread even worse.

What I would recommend doing, is not running the a/c directly against the windshield (defrost) so the windshield doesnt changes to drastically and cause a spider crack to spread.

All ms3s have black exhaust tips and there's no mp3 player in either the sport or GT models. You'll probably need to replace the windshield.

Hey Swamp! I'm close to you and man the road contruction trucks are out of control. I cannot travel in any direction without running into a dumptruck that fails to use his net or roads that are being repaved with tons of left over rocks waiting for a nice SUV to pick up and trough at me. I actually quit driving my car for over a week now because I just got lucky myself with a windshield rock a few weeks ago.

Now back to the topic at hand, I hear if you go outside at night under a full-moon, sit in the middle of your driveway indian-style dressed in a tank-top, buttless chaps, white socks with flip-flops and a bonnie-cover all while holding your arms out to the side while praying, the chip temporarily goes away.

On a serious note, check with your insurance company. My insurance company has a no-fault windshield replacement policy and I only pay $50. It was nice when within one month when I was in Florida, I lost my windshield twice in my truck from those dumb log trucks. Also it falls in a totally different category then your normal comp and collision.

Seriously though, check with your insurance company. Alls I had to do was call and say "yesterday on highway such and such a dumptruck hauling rocks was dropping them all over the highway and BAM, one hit my windshield. Now I have a large chip/crack." You may surprise yourself. Also I believe each state covers these issues as well, I just don't know if VA will.

Safellite is on their way to fix my ish. I know it won't be perfect but it should stop it from spreading and it shouldn't look AS bad. My insurance co is footing the bill.
