My cx7 is in the shop for more than I want * Updated *

** UPDATE 11/03/2006**
Just called and was told that the faulty sensor was the "sun sensor". It threw a code but the tech said I would have never known it was bad if it didnt throw a code. Tech is going to call me with more info on what it is actually for. Maybe the sensor for the auto-on headlights? Anyhow, I am just waiting on the revised axle to come in then I get to pick her up. YAY!

** UPDATE **
Well I got a call from the service technician about my cx. The check engine light was on for several reasons actually. 1 was for some type of fuel related issue. They said it was thrown due to a blown fuse. They also said that there was a faulty temp sensor, not sure what temp sensor it was because I was kinda pre-occupied at work while talking to the guy. I also needed a PCM update apparently. They said that they could not duplicate the problem with the pinging so that good I guess. They are checking my vin to see if I fall into the TSB for the modified propellor shaft but the TSB says for AWD equipped and Im FWD. The tech guy said its a common prob on the 3's though so who knows. They ordered a part for it but got the wrong one in today so the ordered the right one and it should be in tomorrow. We'll see

Yesterday I decided to take her in for the new transaxle, CEL, the oil change and re-inpsection. I decided that I would also have them turn on the auto lock feature. I got there without an appt and they said they didnt have any loaners. I could drop it off but Id have to take an Enterprise car which I declined (no dodge neons or festivas for me). I made an appt for Thursday and left.
As I was leaving the dealership, I was moderatly accelerating and I started hearing very load chattering at 4,000 rpm which I believe to be detonation. I freaked because it wasnt the occasional hot day knock, it was a very pronounced chatter. I turned around and dropped the CX7 off and they were able to give me a Mazda Tribute as a loaner. Ironically when I started talking about the loud knocking in front of other customers, they went out of their way to get me out of there. Lets hope everything is ok.

By the way I have a GT with tech 3,040 miles and an April 06 build date.

Apparently (on GT models equipped with smart key) you can have an auto-lock feature turned on in the ecu. It allows you to walk away with your car unlocked and when you get 5 feet away, the car automatically locks. You dont have to do anything for it to lock except walk away from it. My dealer is charging me $29 for the ecu mod but to me its money well spent.

Xavier, keep us posted on the condition of your CX-7! Why would it start pinging for no reason? Knock sensor? ECU timing not functioning? Enquiring minds want to know! Hopefully it's simple and avoidable.

I will definitley let you know. Im not sure why it would start pinging, I would have thought the ECU would have pulled timing back real quick at the first sign but I guess its not that quick. There was no real reason for the knock either, that I know of. I always run premium, ambient temp was mild, I was accelerating moderately, motor wasnt running hotter than normal...It just boggles me. Hopefully, there was no damage done to the motor.

If you had been parked for a couple of mins to talk to them then jumped back in and took off, you probably experienced intercooler heat soak. Gotta love top mounts. lol The motor will be fine. The knock sensor will have pulled the timing but it takes a second or two.

Dealer didn't charge me anything to turn it on.

Actually, I pulled into the dealership and shut it off and talked to them for 10-15 minutes. Then got back in started it up and went on my way. 15 seconds later...Ping Ping Ping. Sounded like I hit a jackpot in Vegas!

Well thats a problem that needs to be address. Im not going to ice the IC down everytime I stop....Mazda should have gone with a FMIC on all the disi turbos!

Good luck on that one because I doubt they will be revising the intercooler. They will say either let it sit a little longer or don't wait so long before taking off again. The other thing they might say is drive it around for a few mins before boosting to cool the IC off a bit.

Trust me, I am not expecting much out of the dealer.

I had the auto lock engaged and my dealership didn't charge me anything....
I let the car idle for about 30sec to a min before I shut it down because of the turbo - just so I don't have any problems.

this info was provided by the helpful people of this site I might add!

I'm not sure I'm following what's happening any more.
